Modifying Thrustmaster T2 for F1 style

I'm considering adding shifter buttons to the back of my Thrustmaster T2 wheel.
I thought I remembered that someone had done this before.  Can anyone provide
any advice or guidance?

Basically, I'm considering making the T2 more like an F1 wheel so that I can
shift and turn with both hands at the same time.  My plan is to go inside the
T2 and connect the new "fire" button leads on the wheel to the shifter control
"in parallel".  Thus both the shifter and the wheel buttons would perform the
same function.  Any problems with this?  (they're just contact switches,
right?)

Also, does anyone have any recommendations on where to find buttons suitable
for mounting on the 10 oclock and 2 oclock struts of the T2 ?  I'm seeking
something unobtrusive that would allow me to shift up/down using my index
fingers on the back of the wheel.

Thanks in advance,

Ed "Fast Eddie" Reynolds

I just finished doing exactly that. It works great. I just put a tiny
hole directly beneath the steering column and and ran the wires in
through there. I used some tiny little buttons from an old joystick
and they don't stick out above the wheel struts. I hooked them up in
parallel so the stick still works too. I love the setup and highly
recommend it. My only problem is that I tend to drive with a 1 and
11hand position and have to slide down to get at the shifters. Oh
well.

If you need any details just drop me a note.

Radio Shack has some buttons that fit well -- red, square, about 1cm wide, with
a round cylindar base that fits perfectly in the holes on the wheel.  Just
jam them in the holes (I have them on the front of the wheel, and shift
with my thumbs), and wire them in parallel the shifter.

Another easy mod I did to my wheel was to lubricate the connection between
the wheel and the base with vaseline.  It gives the wheel a very smooth
travel, and isn't corrosive on the plastic.
