Why not just buy a T1 and some pedals?  Would do the same thing and be
less trouble.  Just my thoguhts.

Which one of the Thurstmaster's has the pedals and the cheap little
shifter.  I am seriously considering purchasing one of these in the next
month and would like any information on these.  I would like to know how
reliable are they, any complaints about the feeling and mounting of the
unit so that it does not fly around on you.

ThrustMaster now has steering wheel out with F1 style paddles.  I saw
this at Best Buy.  Steering wheel is same otherwise(minus shifter).

I think you mean a GP1 and some pedals. I have a gp1 with t2 pedals and
it's great!

The answer is that I already have a T2...  perhaps if others are seeking to
purchase a wheel, then a T1 would be their choice.  Or they may want to look at
Thrustmaster new "Grand Prix" wheel  (no pedals come with that though).

Matt,

I think you're referring to the Thrustmaster T2, which is what I have.
Overall, I'm pleased with the unit.  I think every "serious" racer who has one
has done some minor mods to get the unit stable for serious driving, though.

I use a 12 inch piece of 1x2 lumber under the braces that attach the wheel unit
to my desk.  This provides a tighter mount for all that frantic steering that I
do  ;-)

My biggest problem used to be with the pedals unit, which would slide around on
the carpet.  I've now corrected that by fastening a "*** car mat" to the
bottom of the unit.  I simply purchased a car floor mat, cut it to size and
attached it to the base of the unit with velcro tape.  The pedals unit now has
these little *** spikes on the bottom, which provide excellent grip in the
carpet.  So.....  now I can slam on the brakes or throttle as needed, without
having the pedals slide all over.

I only wish that the T2 had shifter buttons on the wheel for F1.  The shifter
works great an seems very realistic in NASCAR or Indy.  But It seems awkward
(actually hard for me) to attempt to brake, turn and downshift with only one
hand on the wheel in F1.

Hope this helps.

I modified my T2 about a year ago.  I can't remember where I found the docs
but they were on the internet somewhere.  I easily installed two shifter
buttons on my steering wheel.  It works great!  The buttons are a dream
with GP2.

<stuff deleted>

I must be one of the only sim drivers who drives with only one hand on the wheel.  The other I leave by the shifter, so that I can shift quickly.  I've driven like this since getting my T1 wheel.  The thing is, I know that the pros (both real and sim) drive with 2 hands on the wheel, but it just feels awkward.  I do have both hands on the wheel when I drive a real car, though.
