I improved 14 Frames Per Second in Nascar 3 by taking the CD ROM out of
the CD ROM Drive.

He's talking about how much resources some IDE CDROM's hog.
A crummy IDE CDROM with a small cache can knock the hell out of even a
P2's performance. Losing 10-15 fps wouldn't surpise me a bit.
Sounds like whatever he was running was accessing it all the time.
