Nascar 2 Question

by WarriorSpir » Thu, 29 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I recently installed an older version of Nascar 2 on my computer and have
become quite ***ed to the game.  I downloaded cars, setups, Crew Chief,
etc, etc.  I've gotten to the point in the last several weeks that I can post
competitive times, qualify well and race well against the A1 cars as long as
I'm not in traffic.  It seems that every time I get more than one or two cars
around me I crash.  This is very frustating as I think I can be competitive.
Is there some 'trick' to this or is it just a matter of practice, practice,
practice?  (Although my ***age daughter may kill me if I spend any more time
at the PC than I have the last couple weeks.)  Any help would be greatly
appreciated.  I love the game but I'm getting frustrated with crashing and not
finishing races.

THANX!

Part of the problem is getting used to the limited view.

After a wreck, look at the replay from multiple angles.

That way you can determine if it was you, the AI, or whatever that caused
the wreck.

I personally would be a "Bodine" with the in-car view  :)

What are you using to control the sim?
Joystick? Wheel? Gamepad? Keyboard?

Also pay attention to the framerate.  If your computer can't
handle the load, the framerate starts to slow down and the control
suffers.  You can be smoking the field only to become wall paint if
your low framerate causes loss of control

Nascar 2 Question

I've been joined at the hip with NASCAR Racing since '95 when the first one came
out... I was an absolute menace when I got around anybody..... sloooowly, very
slooowly I have gotten over it to a point - I still have a problem on starts in
heavy traffic - it took a long time to figure out that the biggest problem is my
frame rate as suggested in another reply....   you will NOT overcome this
problem with sluggish video... ain't gonna happen - there are tracks that I have
to turn off all objects, billboards, horizon, paint jobs, everything but the
track and the cars, and I still have to tiptoe - as you suspect, practice and
more practice is about the only cure for driving - but, try reducing the
steering lock some - I found this to be a huge help to keep me from zig-zaggin'
all over the place - too much and it will slow you down, but try a little and
see if it helps.........

Well, that is the view I prefer to race in.  And as I stated in a previous
reply I'm beginning to think I'm related to the Bodines the way I crash all
the time.  If I can start on the front row, or close to it, and get out front
early, then I can lead and pick off cars as I come to them it seems OK.  But
put me in traffic and I can Bodeen half a dozen cars.

I'm using a T2 wheel and pedals.

On restarts and in heavy traffic you would swear that my last name is Bodine.

Well, I was partial Goof (Oops, I mean Goofey) Bodeen, but recently I've been
giving my total support to "That Cue Ball Headed Fool" Bodeen!  ;-)
