SCGT updating problems

by captri.. » Wed, 07 Feb 2001 02:46:53

Here it is. I just got SCGT as a package with two other games (NFS III
and Nascar Revol. package deal all for $9.99!)  I hate the sound in
SCGT. Downloaded the 1.55 (?) patch and the sound update.  Installed in
the SCGT directory per instructions and replaced the vehicle.mas as
directed.  No change in sound.  Did it again.  No change in sound.
Also, I now have blinking graphics on the dashboard area when using the
in car view.  I am using TBird 1.1,  64M DDR Radeon, and Soundblaster
Extreme Gamer.

Some questions/comments before I uninstall and begin all over again.
First, does the 1.55 update make any visible changes to the game so
that I can tell if it installed?  I have not had the game long enough
to tell how it was before the patch.  Secondly, any help in getting the
sound to work would be appreciated, the sound truly sucks in the
original game.  Finally, I noticed in the SCGT readme that it is
calling the game "SCGT Classic."  Does this mean anything in terms of
the game, or is it just because it was repackaged to sell as a
package?  Finally, how many cars am I supposed to have to choose from
when the game starts?  I am only being given the choice of BMW and
Porsche. Do I have to unlock more? Thanks.

SCGT updating problems

Here's what the patch does:

Fixes:

* Replay interpolation much improved
* Replay weather conditions should now always be
correct
* Added ability to call alternate AI driver into
pits (Shift + A)
* Opponent car sounds fixed when driving in-car
* Various networking improvements.
* Added "dash" to starting view options on
options/misc tab (option sticks from realtime as
well)
* By request, Main taskbar in options no longer
slides away when not in focus
* Road Atlanta:  hills smoothed out
* D3D for 3Dfx put back in (to use D3D on primary
adapter, you must disable on 3Dfx).

AFAIK, "SCGT Classic" is no different than "SCGT."

You start out with the two cars you named.  You
can either race your way to more cars or use the
cheats.

Goto http://www.theuspits.com and download rrevveds sound pack version
2.  This will replace the sounds/22k folder.  Besure to use 22k sounds
from the config screen.

When using Direct3D I get a flickering dash too.  Just use F4 to toggle
the dash off then on and it should fix it.

If you want to play online, you need the patch.  I would recommend
installing it because it fixes some other bugs.

[snip]

You can use cheat codes to unload all the cars (to purchase) and tracks.

1. Create a new driver.  You can use an existing driver, but if you're
running the single player mode you might not want to cheat with that
one.
2. From the main menu, choose the series/single player option.  It's the
screen where you can buy cars.
3. Type "isi-cheeseman".  There is no prompt, just type it in without
the quotes and you will see a confirmation in the upper-left corner of
the screen (quick flash).
4. Now type in any of these cheats:
   isi-tbone    = All tracks/cars
isi-aardvark = Free money to buy cars and upgrades.
5. Race :)

Thanks for that link.  It had a link for making the AI faster, which
caught my eye :-)

Download the SRU1 Sound Realism Update for Sportscar GT, and see if that
helps. You can get it at:

Happy motoring!
