Stewering Wheel Help in GP2

by Glenn Beaumari » Sun, 06 Apr 1997 04:00:00

Hi

I'm haivng a bit of trouble setting up my wheel to use in GP2.  I have a
Thrustmaster Grand Prix 1, and find it no problem in NCR2 and ICR2.

However, in GP2, if I have the wheel set with steering and opposite lock
help on, then it will not allow me to go around any tight corners quickly.

I have played around with other peoples' control sets for wheels, and found
them to be too sensitive for my liking.  For example, one control set was
soo sensitive that any slight movement in a starughtline meant that the car
lost control.

I realise that changing the lock will help, however the "reduce with car
speed" and "low sensitivity" zones have got me confused.

What I would like is a car that steers around a corner smoothly, without
being twitchy, and at the same time, if need be I can increase my effort on
the wheel whilst driving such that I can get around the tighter corners.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

The reduce with car speed option reduces steering lock at high speed.
At 0% it has no effect, at 100% it has maximum effect.
It does not affect the steering lock at low speed.

So set to 100%, when the car is at full speed the steer lock is reduced
to avoid veering off the road when turning the wheel at high speed.

The low sensitivity zone options affect the sensitivity of the controls
you are using.
0% gives a constant sensitivity, 100% gives a progressive sensitivity
across the full range of the control device.

So if your using a wheel and pedal set-up, and you want the throttle to
gradually increase speed as you press the throttle down all the way,
set-up the low sens zone to 100%(full progressive response across control
device).

However, if you only want the throttle to accelerate when you press the
pedal between 0 - 50% of its travel, then set-up low sens zone to 50%,
eg:- max throttle reached at 50% throttle travel, if you press pedal more
than 50% you will not get any more speed increase.

The manual explains this rather well I thought?

If you are using an analogue control device rather than a digital one,
you MUST have steering help and Throttle help OFF, it will improve your
handling and "feel" for the car so much.

Opposite lock help can be set to on or off as you prefer, it only enables
car spins to be recovered easier, but does not affect the actual cars
handling too much, so is less important.

Try this:

Sensitivity 100%
Wheel lock 21
Reduce w/ speed 60%
Acceleration 100%
Braking 100%
