I never really understood this thinking by Nascar though. There are
videos all over the place with Nascar's name on it showing cars flipping
here and there.
Things might be changing in the future though because EA has somehow got
around this since cars in their PSX game flip. Time will tell I guess.

Barry, I talked to someone who worked on Nascar2 when it was beeing made
and I asked him that question, he said that since you can design you car it
makes if close to impossible to allow the cars to flip of burn.

The real problem is two-fold:
1. NASCAR doesn't like to glorify the danger and crash & burn aspects of its
family entertainment product. Accordingly, the will not approve a
product which is NASCAR licensed which glorifies those things.
2. It doesn't really add much to the point of the game, IMO, to spend
lots of time making the graphics engine capable of depicting extremely
realistic crashes, when such a crash would likely result in a fancier
equivalent of "Press ESC to continue"
It might make for more of a gee-whiz demo for your friends, but I
don't think it would add much to the enjoyment of the product as a
whole. (Besides, you'd have a hard time getting NASCAR to approve
it...)

Jeffrey, I haven't been able to read a word you've said so far in this
newsgroup because your posts are in HTML - any chance of posting in
the regular text usenet was designed for? It doesn't matter to me, but
it would mean for you that more people read what you say and you're
more likely to find what you're looking for.
Thanks,
John
I heard from someone who does beta testing for Sierra that NASCAR 3 will
have flipping. Also the***pit will be 3D, you will see hands on the wheel
and when you will shift one hand will reach down to shift, then return to
the wheel. I don't know how accurate this is, but I hope he's right.

As far as flipping thats fine... but i think you will find alot of us
really do not what hands moving around the***pit wheel and shifter.
Too cheesy.
I see my own hands on the wheel and shifter... dont need to see fake
ones on the screen as well.
3D***pit should be cool though.

Well...I'm inclined to agree with the last sentence...but animated
HANDS?? Moving with the wheel, and to the shift lever and back??
WAY too distracting, imo. Shades of NFS. If this is true, I hope they
have an option to turn it OFF. cheers...duncan.
I have no use for flipping or hands on the wheel. Just fix the artificial
cars and crews to make realistic pit stop decisions and passing decisions.
However, keep and add more configuration options, like changing reliability
of cars/teams, adding better randomization of performance characteristics
of each team (like consistency), random pit ordering. Also add more than
39 cars (with some missing the race) and of course two wide restarts.
These in itself would make N3 worth it by providing a very real racing
experience and thereby a "simulation" of an actual race!! Graphics does
not do this - simulated AI and challenge does. Variation of horsepower
and traction related to each driver list would also be great. This would
allow us to run truck, busch and other series at realistic relative speeds
- requiring a different setup etc. I have developed a tuning program
which will lower grip and rels by a percentage at all the tracks for
running a truck series which helps a bit for running trucks with a
different setup and speed than a WC car. However, modifying the tracks is
a pain and does not help with the horsepower deal. Custom sounds, spotter
etc. would also be very cool (I know these can be done with smarts and
patching - but not by the average sim racer - just by us
programmer/fanatic/hacker types. /Tom

Roof flaps would be nice... who cares about animated hands?
