It's not the poll which ruffled RAS's feathers, but the wording of the
options. This poll was way out of line, IMO.
If it had said:
Is RAS still number one for simracing information?
1) Yes, RAS has all the info and the posters are friendly.
2) Yes, RAS has all the info, but some posters are unfriendly.
3) No, moderated, web-based forums offer better, more concentrated
information and a friendly atmosphere is garanteed.
4) RAS??
I don't think anyone would have batted an eyelid. Now, my personal reaction
was: "Who the f**k do those people think they are?" and, for the record,
it's not like me to react like that. -Just an indication of how insulting
the wording was.
If you want an unbiased response to your poll you have to watch what you say
and keep it neutral. People may think there's too much ego and flaming in
RAS when they select number two, but you can't go and spell it out for them.
Any intelligent publisher would have had grave doubts about simracingnews
when presented with the poll, even if we hadn't had got wind of it.
That was not a poll, it was a simracingnews flame directed at RAS and they
roundly deserved the flack they received here. If our reaction bombed a deal
with a sponsor for simracingnews or a publisher, I feel sorry for them, but
they only have themselves to blame.
Not that they learned anything, mind. The CART poll is nearly as bad.
