ATI Graphic problems(ati9800)

I've seen others post about this, but most of the problems seem to solve
themselves.  Here is what I get.
With either of the EA F1 sims, the cars will display poorly.  Missing
textures or missing poly's make big holes in the car or textures tear and
look like crossbars stretched from the airbox to the nose.
None of this causes a performance problem, and thankfully, from the
***pit view there seem to be no big errors.  But the replays of the F1
cars or outside views are all littered with these missing polygons.

Now here is the wierd part...I have a beta of the F12k2 LeMans Mod that
was quickly ported over to F1C.  Using the Mod's cars I see almost NO
texture/polygon problems.  The Ferrari 360 had a couple of small triangles
missing from the roof, and a Viper seemed to have no missing textures at
all.  So WHY does the mod display properly(or at least 95% better) when the
original F1 cars do not?
Here is a link to a couple of screenshots that displays the problem.

Anyone have ideas how to clean this up?

Dave...if you remember i had exactly the same thing when i bought the Ati
9700 Pro and you tried to help me ..LOL

It is really simple and after many many hours of trying everything it was
such a relief to find the answer.

I further backed up my own cure by trawling the forums with the precise
search words and bingo ALOT of people had experienced the same problem, and
into the bargain i became quite a well thanked person for the info :))

So Dave...after all the slobber...:)...here is the reason.

Your motherboard.

Your mobo maker might have an updated driver on the main site by now,it
might be cured by using the very latest mobo GART drivers(AGP) or the latest
BIOS update might do it.

But for certain a change of mobo WILL do it.

That sounds like the problem.  A couple of users at RacesimCentral even
had the same motherboard as I have.  Since I had to SNEAK the vidcard
puchase...a motherboard is gonna be a tough sell...hehehehe

Just curious what motherboard/chipset are you using?  I have ran my 9700 pro
on both my old ASUS A7M-266 (amd/via chipset) and my Leadtek K7N (Nforce2
chipset) and never saw anything like that, thank goodness

Asus A7A266.  an ALI chipset.  THey whipped it out I think when the
first VIA chipsets had all sorts of problems.  It also has memory slots for
DDR and SDram so it's more of a one board fits all type of arrangement.
Seems like all the local dealers here in town went for 'lowest common
denominator'  when they bought their supplies.  And since at the time of my
purchase the AMD/VIA/Soundblaster combo seemed to be having tons of
problems, I jumped at the chance to avoid a VIA based board.
I have an updated bios, but I think there is one more update version
available.  Not sure what difference that will make, the bios update is to
enable compatibility with the 2600+ Thourobred CPU.  I'd also like to move
to a Barton AMD cpu so a new mb is becomming more and more important.

It was real common around here at first, but they started having a ton of
problems with them so the local store started going for the A7M which has an
AMD north bridge/VIA south bridge.  The board is rock steady, but its
limited to a 2000xp Palomino core chip so its now pc2 with a GF3. A good
second setup for friends when they come over. My main box is a Leadtek K7N
with the Nforce2 chipset and it runs the ATI9700 pro great. I just need a
more powerful cpu.

My old A7A has updated bios' that allow it to run all the way up to 2600
Thoroughbred XP+ cpus.  I would guess the the A7m's can be updated as well.

Last time I checked support for the A7Ms was discontinued and the 2100
palomino core was the top dog. I bought what was suppose to have been a 2100
palomino core chip, but it turned out to be a t-bred. At that point I said
***it and went for a new motherboard.
