ATI Weird graphic problem

by Aide » Tue, 23 Sep 2003 20:56:21

My brother has a GF4 ti 4200 golden sample made by Gainward, all is fine but
he went against my advice(sibling chip on shoulder syndrome) and 'thought'
it would be a good upgrade to get the ATI 9600 Pro.

He removed all Nvidia traces, switched off and installed the new card.

The computer screen stays black thoughout all though it is actually doing
all its normal stuff and reaches desktop. You cant see it but you know due to
the beeps and key presses needed.

The manual actually comments that if you have this black screen you need
updated GART drivers(AGP)...so we updated his VIA AGP drivers.

But still it is the same.

Anyone have any fixes/hints/tips on the matter please..?

Might be a quick return at this rate.

"Aidee"

WHat is his power supply rated at?  To test, try unpluggin the power
plugs to the cdrom, and floppy and any extra drives he may have.  Just have
the booting HD and the motherboard plugged in.  Does the 9600 have a power
plug needed like the 98's?

Funnily Dave the 9600 is the only one that doesnt use the power supply
connection.

Will investigate it further when i pop round later.

are you sure? IIRC, there's a utility to remove the nvidia completely.

does the screen come up in VGA mode or safe mode? if so, it's most certainly
the drivers for the card (use the ATI driver rather than the manufacturer's
driver).
