Imho, Nascar Heat, WSC, and Nascar 4 will dominate through the remainder of
the year.

Great Point Marc

I'm fed up of GPL fans being labeled as closed minded fanatics who will
immediately knock down any other the racing sim. It total BS. Has it ever
occurred to you that GPL is worth it's mass following? It is clearly the
most accurate sim out there to date hence the reason why it is praised. It
is a brilliant game and I would rate it over GP2 and from what I have read
the warez GP3 without hesitation.  If a decent sim comes out I for one would
get hold of it ASAP. WSC and NASCAR 4 to me look like very interesting games
and if they turn out to be realistic in physics (which I believe they will)
I will buy it without a doubt. I call myself a GPL fanatic, I love the game
but I also spend plenty of other time playing games like SCGT (which I
totally enjoy and feel is a very underrated game). If you want a fanatic to
"nitpick" GPL I will say that the AI behavior is average, absence of wet
weather is also a downer, and the lack of driving aids gives the game a
terribly steep learning curve. Trust these features annoy me but there are
only a few and these are overseen by the fantastic online support and
gameplay found in GPL. In the end if you exclude the physics engine it is
the amount of these "nitpicks" that separates the strength and playability
of a racing SIM. So as you may see I'm not saying GPL is perfect because
really it isn't, but it's floors are minor in the whole perspective of the
game and hence I feel it is the most perfect game out there at this point in
time. If another game out of the box is better than GPL, hell I will
obviously praise it more no matter what form of racing it is. Again, I PLAY
OTHER SIMS LIKE SCGT, F12K, MSGP2 AND ENJOY THEN A LOT so don't say I'm
closed minded to any game other than GPL!!!!!!

From what I have read, LOTS AND LOTS of features that are undeniably
important to modern formula are missing, e.g. 107% rule, Penalties, camber,
track camber etc are missing. This is really really pathetic and in the end
I feel this will separate GP3 and other games to come from the SIM greats
out there. When I play the warez version I will give more detailed thoughts
BUT I WILL certainly take in mind that this is an early release and make no
final judgments.

One last point, I feel that the GP2 physics engine isn't enough to be able
to keep the GPXX series alive in the SIM department especially where games
like GPL exist and games like WSC and Nascar 4 are in the waitings. Gp2 I
feel is canned, after re-installing it I found it unplayable AND again I can
play games like F12K and SCGT and totally enjoy them!!!! Don't get me wrong
I used to praise GP2 and be a fanatic until GPL came out and dated the GP2
engine IMO.

***y hell that was a long post, but I had a lot to get off my back!!!!!

BTW if GP3 is better that GPL, I WILL PRAISE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely correct.

Many of us GPL die-hards are craving a bit of modern day action and a fresh
perspective but like myself, will not drive a sim with inferior physics or
simply facelifted old titles. Next challenger step into the ring please -
Roll on WSC.

When is Nascar Heat supposed to be out...?

Ok, why would someone lie about it?  They want to try to single-handedly *ruin*
GP3?  Just curious...

I think split axis DOES work, its just that GP3 doesnt look inside
Direct input to see what axis/buttons is avalable, cos it just list
Joystick A and B no matter what you have plugged in.

Remember that in gp2 svga mode was a last minute add-on (which
also made it bog slow with sky and smoke), so Crammond an
friends have set a preference.

I'm very bitter about the leaked version of gp3, it totally
destroyed my hopes that gpl might be replaced or be in serious
danger of facing competition up there in sim heaven.

My hopes now rest on Loki to give us a nice GPL II compilation
on Linux. Stay tuned.

: If it's the same as GP2 then tell me how you choose the RZ axis for
: brakes? That option was never in GP2 and my understanding is it's
: exactly the same in GP3.

Doh - it works in GP2 as well of course.  You just need to be at least
50% competent to set it up

That would be a dream come true. I just wonder how Linux would support
