How do I make ICR2 work

by Craig Jol » Sun, 08 Aug 1999 04:00:00

I have seen several messages about running ICR2 under
Win9x.  I was wondering how to do it under Win98.  I have
tried but I get an error in Windy.exe every time.  Please
help as this is the only way I have to race other than
GPL.

Windy would not work on my PC, so I run the DOS version
within W98 (in a DOS box). I set the shortcut up so that it
does not allow MS-DOS programs to detect Windows.

The wheel works great and I do online modem racing with
a friend all the time.

To get around the problem, first restart windows.  Next disable Direct Draw
and Direct Sound in the game. In the OPTIONS for the game there will be a
SOUND section.  Take the check out of the box labeled Use Direct Sound.
There will also be a GRAPHICS section in the OPTIONS menu.  In the GRAPHICS
section select the ADVANCED settings and make sure there is no check in the
box next to the Use Direct Draw.  Then EXIT THE GAME (this is necessary to
save the settings).  You should now be able to play the game. If you run
your desktop at a resolution higher than 640x480 (who doesn't these days)
change it to 640x40 before starting the sim or it will run in a 640x480 box
in the center of the screen.
Cheers,
Chris
