My Celeron 266 runs GPL and Win 95 fine at 400 MHz, Win95 is OK at
448MHz, but GPL throws me out after a few minutes.

default voltage and very cool CPU BTW. Anyone got  any ideas on this
one. This (excellent) game needs all the CPU power it can get.

I had a similar problem. I have a voodoo 2 card that seemed to be getting
hot. I put a big fan on it and have had no lock ups since. The fan is loud
though.

Up your cpu voltage by .05 at a time until it's stable. mine runs great at
2.1v and have been known to run as high as 2.4v but I wouldn't do it.

448 means you are using 112Mhz bus (I think), most of the video cards
doesnt support that bus speed, so when you use the 3d of the card it hangs,
try to lower the bus speed.

112MHz capable boards use a x3 PCI bus some at x4
112 / 3 = 37MHz.. no problem

Good call manuel, I missed that. AFAIK the celeron is multiplier locked at
4.5 so it works out to 4.5x66=297, 4.5x75=338, 4.5x83=374,4.5x100=450,
4.5x112=504. I have tried it with a 112 bus and I also got lockups or even
simple system shutdowns. So I settled on 450 with plenty of cooling and am
having no problems now. I did up the voltage of the cpu to 2.1.

no not really if u are using 3dfx most probably u need more cooling for the
cpu thats is what I had to do and just changes the heat sink and now
everything works rock solid.
