Improve your laptimes using DX Tweaker Utility

I guess many of you will have used this program before, but in case
some haven't, I'd like to give an unqualified thumbs up to the utility
DX Tweaker.
Basically, what it does is allow you to adjust the deadzone and
calibration of your steering wheel or joystick under Direct X, even if
it is of the automatic calibration variety, like the Thrustmaster
Ferrari wheel. For me, the crucial improvement was to reduce the
deadzone from the default 5% to 1%, or even zero. This made my car
much more controlable, especially at high speed.
For example, in GP legends, at Monza, approaching First Lesmo, my car
used to bounce around all over the track, making hard braking just a
matter of close-your-eyes-and-hope-for-the-best. (OK, thats my normal
technique anyway!). Now, I'm all smooth, slick control, exactly like
Jim Clarke!!

I also used it to de-sensitize my brake pedal a bit, so that I can
really stamp it before the wheels lock up.

I got mine from  :

  http://www.racesimcentral.net/

, but I'm sure it's available elswhere also.

I hope this helps others as much as it has helped me,

Regards

Looks interesting. I know the readme says 'this only works correctly' under
Win9x. Has anyone had the nads to try it under 2K? Is it easy to uninstall
if it's non-functional?

I had the nads.  Running Win2K Server with all Service Packs, etc. Running
DX 8.0a NOT DX 8.1 don't know if it works with 8.1  You do need to reboot
before DX figures out what just happened though.  Can't really say if it
actually fixed the dead zone.  Haven't tested it out enough yet.

Oooh, you are the brave one aren't you? ;-) Your setup is identical to mine
as well, but I must say that it seems as if your endor***t of said product
is not as spectacular as that of the initiator of this thread. Can you
elaborate? If you had it it to do again? Worthwhile?

Perhaps said description wansn't sufficiently didactical in it's
endorsamentation.  It does seem more sensitive to slight movement in the GPL
calibration menu.  That might not be such a good thing though if you aren't
using a USB wheel what with the cacaphony of radio frequencies emenating and
reverberating through said CPU receptical.

OK, thanks for the input Kirk!

Anyone know if this works reliably under XP?

It worked in Win2k, I spose XP would be the same.

Long time ago I learned that GPL overrides any windows-setting, so DXTweaks
wouldn't work. Do I miss something?
