What's different between ICR1 and ICR2?

by Mark Ferr » Fri, 04 Oct 1996 04:00:00

I am currently running Papyrus's Indycar (not II, the original one)
and am enjoying it immensely.  I did download the demo of Indycar II
and like some of what I saw (the new driving views help in familiarizing
with a new track) but couldn't tell a whole lot of what was different
other than the look (new interface, new dashboard).  The text files
and Papyrus's web site don't either list much of what is different
between the two, so I'm appealing to you guys.

What are the differences between the two?  I get a better frame
rate with more details with Indycar I.  I'd like to try out the replay
on ICR2, but I only seem to get about 1/2 second of video each time
I try it (is it limited in the demo?).  I notice that ICR2 is supposed
to support SVGA.  What hardware is realistically needed to get a
good SVGA frame rate out of it?

I will probably upgrade if only to get the additional tracks, but
I don't want to lose performance.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Not sure about the differences but IC2 works ok in SVGA on my AMD
DX4/120 with an Ark Logic PV1000 chipset video card and 16Mb ram.
Obviously I don't run much detail - just car and track textures -
but I prefer it to VGA.  It is difficult to drive though - mind
you, I'm on the keyboard !!!  Can't wait 'til I get my hands on
that damn GP500 I ordered.   Warning - IC2 on keys is nigh on
impossible as far as I'm concerned !   I can almost complete two
laps withough going off now !    :-)
