GPL warping with 1.2 patch

GPL warping with 1.2 patch

by Andrew Keirb » Mon, 10 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I never had any trouble with warping with the 1.1 patch (but it seemed to
limit my framerate) but, having installed the 1.2 patch recently, I find
myself driving along happily when, all of a sudden, everything speeds up!
This is disconcerting and causes me  to lose concentration (so important in
this game) and is spoiling my enjoyment of the best racing game around. Can
anyone help?
cheers

GPL warping with 1.2 patch

by Rand » Tue, 11 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I wish I could help you, but there seems to be a very small minority
of us for whom the 1.2 patch does not work well.  On my machine v1.2
is so jerky I am unable to drive at all.  It wouldn't be so bad but it
means no online racing for me since I use v1.1.  I have tried
everything I can think of from complete purges and reinstalls of GPL
and my OS to the full range of old and new drivers for my hardware
plus any recomended and not recomended tweaks I can find or think of.

For what it is worth this is my system:

Case: Elan Vital T-5 ATX
        Power Supply: Sparkle 235W

CPU:  Intel Celeron 300a MMX Costa Rica
       OC'd to 450MHz

Board:  Abit BE6

RAM:  128MB PC100 SDRAM Samsung CAS2

Hard Drives: Quantum ST64A002-01-A-A
             Maxtor 7850AV 850MB EIDE

Video Cards: CL 3DBlaster TNT2 Ultra
              2 Monster 3D II 12MB EDO RAM SLI'd

Sound Card: SB Live Value Liveware 3.0

OS:Windows 98 SE

Wheel: Logitec  Wingman Formula Force

If you find a solution Andrew please let me know.

GPL warping with 1.2 patch

by Marc Spruij » Tue, 11 Apr 2000 04:00:00

The only thing I can think of in relation to time is the o'clocked Celeron.
On www.earsound.com they had an issue related to timing in their sound
drivers that was only found with o'clocked C300A CPU's with Windows9x. It
had something to do with one DLL responsible for the Windows timer. As the
site stated "Microsoft is aware of the problem", so no sollution for a long
time. The only sollution was downclocking or another CPU.

GPL warping with 1.2 patch

Hi,

I run a Celeron 300A at 450 and have absolutely no problems with GPL. I
personally know of about 5 others who also do this without problems, and I'm
sure there are many more. The over-clocked 300A isn't the sole culprit.

GPL warping with 1.2 patch

I seem to recall some problems reported with Liveware 3 by some GPLers. Suggest
trying earlier version.

I have to agree, since the problem is still there when I run my
Celeron at 300MHz.
