New Tracks

All registered owners of NASCAR by Papyrus should have recieved their
card concerning New Tracks CD.  If anyone is looking for Daytona won't
find it here.  I think Sega has a copyright on the track that won't
allow Papyrus to release it,  why couldn't they do the track and call
it something else?  Anyways for 29.95 you get about 8 more tracks to
run on it looks cool,  let me know if someone has recieved the new CD
yet I'm curious if C***te is a night race only setup?

Thanks Chuck.

I'd assume they can't use Indy because the governing body of NASCAR
has sold the rights to someone else. On the same note, ICR has Indy
prolly because Papyrus was able to buy the rights from PPG.

I wish they would have added the tracks anyway. Call them Daystrom 500
and the Brickmeter 400. :>

it something else?

I have been wondering the same thing. The copyright and trademark laws do not
apply to a racetrack layout or configuration. For that matter, a programmer
could duplicate the geographic features of and surrounding the track (like
the hills/mountains realistically around Talladega and Bristol or even an
infield body of water that looks suspiciously like Lake LLoyd) provided that
appropriate disclaimers appeared and there  were no embedded trademarks,
tradenames or logos. Papyrus may have some contractual restrictions in its
license that prohibits it from marketing or sponsoring facsimile NASCAR
tracks. An aftermarket programmer would not have this problem.

My memory is that the old track at Ontario California was a clone of Indy.
This might be another way to experience driving a WC car on Indy's 2 1/2 mile
flat track.

I like the idea of generic tracks if the genuine article is not available for
licensing.  Having all tracks available would certainly add to the realism of
a full season of virtual racing.

Ujjal,

I beleive the problem is that if they wish to release the IMS as a track for NASCAR
Racing, IMS will require a separate license agreement because it is another
product (Papyrus created The Indianapolis 500: The Simulation and got the
license to sell it, but they had to get another license for the ICR Expansion Pack
regardless). I'm sure that the reason for the lack of a release is due to a "catch"
with the licensing rights acquired for the ICR pack( a "one product release" type
of agreement). Maybe if we beg Papyrus( and flood the IMS with mail...) we will get
a NASCAR version of the IMS. I for one would love to drive hard into turn one while
bumping fenders with #24...
