like I said.  not everyone HAS disposable income.

you don't get what I was on about. You put someone down because they didn't
have the latest hardware.

as for me.  as you put it.  a wopping $50.  to me, thats either no petrol in
the car.  some of the house payment doesn't get paid.  my kid doesn't eat
for the week.

So please put brain into gear before engaging mouth.

any upgrade to the computer in many households IS considered a luxury.

If that's the case, then what on earth would somebody be doing with a PC
capable of running TRD2?

was linked to the buying of a $100 computer game.

yes it is, the original poster was getting belittled because he didn't have
the latest hardware.

and yes, buying of pc games in some households is also a luxury.

No Steve the original poster wasnt being belittled for that at all.

He was being belittled for his stupidity, and his apparent desire to show it
publicly in here.

if the content of his original post was wrong,  couldn't he have been
corrected in a more civilised manner.  No-one deserves the response that he
got.
But I suppose we all can't be like you and so perfect and correct in
everything we say or do.

Steve, you revert to type so easily with that stereotypical response.

He owns a pc,a new game comes out on DVD (something which we have known was
on it's way for a while now) so he gets on his soapbox and slags off the
company Codemasters for making this decision because he hasnt got a dvd
rom.....the same dvd roms that cost 16 at my supplier.

The reply was in keeping with his tone at Codemasters and was sufficiently
tongue in cheek to get a nice variation in replies.Always good on a public
opinion stage.

After reading all replies I know for sure the original poster is talking
***and should easily be able to get a cheap dvd rom if he badly wants the
game.

After all if thats the way things are going his small initial investment in
the dvd rom should furnish his purchase of games for many a year to come.

It still doesn't justify the response that he got.

Hey think of it this way then

If buying a DVD drive is a luxery, as is buying a PC Game

He just saved money since he can not buy the game. Codemasters did him a
favor because now his "kid can eat for the week"

you know, its people like the first reponder to the origianl post that are
really making me wonder why I visit this newsgroup.  Egotistical, eletist
and judgemental people absolutely***me off.
Destroy   had not flamed or abused anyone in the newsgroup.  just stated his
view on the game being released on DVD only. The first reply was to call him
a moron.  totally uncalled for.  That was the intent of my original post.

Yes cliff, they may have done him a favour.  They certainly have done me
one.  I only buy a couple of games a year.  Upgrade the puter only when it
wont cut the grade anymore.  the first part of this post wasn't aimed at you
either.  Your posts have been civil.  But as usual, there are people in this
newsgroup that believe their own bulls**t.

TOCA Race Driver 2 DVD only? wtf?

by Cliff Roma » Wed, 21 Apr 2004 10:52:47

I agree with you that it was wrong to slam the guy.. .but I do agree with
the overall "thought" of this thread

DVD Drives are the future..  while I do not think that CD-Roms will ever
completely go away (at least not until they are no longer backward
compatable.. in other words when something else comes out down the road to
replace even DVD drives), more and more software will be released on DVDs
due to size and cost considerations.

Since DVD Drives are so cheap these days ($35 US), a person is definately in
the minority these days if they do not have one.  Software companies know
this and they know that the non-dvd drive owner is becoming a bigger
minority day by day.

TOCA Race Driver 2 DVD only? wtf?

by Damien Evan » Wed, 21 Apr 2004 12:18:26

Like I said, DVD-ROM drive have been around for 6 years.  I actually think
game makers have been a bit slow to start using DVDs.

You're right though - the original response by AD was uncalled for.
