Gran Turismo 3 is AWESOME

I played it at my friend's house the other day, he had a table set up with
wheel and pedals! Man oh man, it might not be as realistic as N4 or GPL, but
the physics are still great, and most importantly, it's about a million
times more fun. I spent all night beating all the license tests my friend
couldnt beat, and he was in shock since it was the first time i played.  I
would certainly buy a PS2 if i could afford it even though I've hated
consoles lately. GT3 just blew me away.

By the way, I remember reading PS2 has USB ports? Is that true? If so could
I use my LWFF on it? Probably not, but i'd feel weird about owning 2 wheels.
Anyway, i'll probably never get a PS2, so hopefully, WSC will come out and
be better.  Playing GT3 made me realize how absolutely boring N4 is.

I wouldn't say it's more fun, but it is a fun game even with the awful AI.

No the LWFF will not work, but the new Logitech GP will.

I don't agree about the N4 and GPL aren't fun, but I do agree that Gran
Tourismo is fun, and reasonably reasilitic to drive.

I haven't tried GT3 yet, but have been driving Grand Tourismo 2 a lot
lately, and just love it.  If not for the AI, just the pure exhileration of
driving some of the road courses flat out, buying new cars and trying
different ones.  Great fun!  Totally recommend it, even with a gamepad.

Actually, I have to agree that N4 is pretty boring... the physics, the
graphics and the simulation are top notch for sure, the best Nascar
simulator by far, but it's just the reality of going round and round...
lightly moving the steering wheel and gas pedal always in the same general
direction... it gets long.

If you find N4 boring you are not driving fast enough :D

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I find it's fun in traffic while playing online, though I'm no NASCAR fan at
all! (Hate those damn rednecks ;) I may be from the USA, but give me my
CART, F1, and Pro Rally/WRC and I'll be happy :)) Just the close tight
racing online and being real smooth while going around a fast sweeper
consistantly feels SOOOOO good.

Thanks,
Alex

I've not got or played either N4 - though have all the other N* games -
or GT3, but was wondering how you can decide whether GT3 won't also
becoming boring pretty quickly since you've only played it for one
night?

<snip>
The PS2 supports USB keyboards and mice.  GT3 was actually developed
using the Logitech Formula Force GP, which is identical to the Force GT
that they are selling now.   The LWFF is not compatible since it was
cable-driven and the new ones are gear-driven.  Either wheel will work
on the PS2 or a PC.
The PS2 also has a firewire port, whcih is currently used for connecting
multiple PS2's together and playing GT3 with 3 TV's and 3 PS2's for
instance.

The thing about GT3 is it has a decent amount of tracks, but like 150 cars
that you can buy and upgrade, and a bunch of different "race series" and
play modes. The most fun is the actual driving and watching replays. NFS
porsche unleashed is the closest thing on a computer, but the physics or
graphics arent as good, and I've gotten sick of porsche's.

NFS

Actually IMHO, I think that SCGT is by far the closest thing on the PC to
GT3. There are numerous cars in the standard game, not to mention 100 +
addon cars out there at various sites. The stock physics are a bit less
demanding than GT3's , but you can tweak the physics models variables for
any given car, and thereby achieve far more realistic physics, more
comparable to the better sims. SCGT and GT3 have been dominating most of my
playing time over the last 2 weeks, they are soo good. N4 has no doubt the
best physics model of any sim, but oval courses just are not that compelling
for me. Once I am into an oval course race it can be a blast, but somehow I
do not seem to get back to racing N4 or Nascar heat that often, compared to
my other sims. It's like watching an old Bogart movie, if there is nothing
else on TV at 4 A.M. I can really get into and enjoy Casablanca, but I would
hardly go looking for it after the fact.

<< Loads of stuff about GT 3 snipped>>

Your saying GT3 is dead good - I am hearing this right?

Quick question to those who have played it - are you married?

I ask, because the idea of explaining to my wife that, as well as
a computer with a funny wheel attachment I also require a device
called a "Playstation 2" and *another* wheel attachment is enough
to make my ears bleed.

Don't even dare mention that this would also require access to
the "soap box" TV she stares at insessantly.

She'd book me in for therapy - after a long explanation of exactly
how much money will be required for the next family holiday.

I can't be the only one.

So, until they rename "Playstation 2" as a "3rd Generation  DVD
player" and make it compatible with my LWFF, could we please
shut up about GT3 - my health is at stake!

Hm, you might want to wait for the X-Box then, doesn't sound kiddy at
all, even more so, you might have to explain to your wife that this
really isn't a box to view *** DVD's! ;-)
