Personally I find it difficult judging my position on the track from
the in-car view, whereas the arcade view enables you to see
exactly where you are.  Maybe this mode helps your friend judge
his position on the track better, and therefore get a better line.

p.s . the frame rate (judging by the level of detail) seems to be
much lower on arcade - or is this just me ?

The frame is lower in arcade view; we have to update the entire screen in
arcade view, as opposed to ~2/3 screen in***pit view.

The only advantage I see in arcade is judgeing cars that are in close at
the rear and to the side. I prefer in-car, I can have a better visual feel
for the cars behavior.
