Top Speed bug in NFS II SE?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I just started playing NFS 2...

Is there some kind of bug when you put the game into simulation mode?

In arcade mode, on a track like the Outback, I can get the McLaren up to 230
mph.  If I switch to simulation mode, though, the car gets up to about 195 in
5th gear and when it switches up to 6th gear, the rpms drop down to about
midlevel, but they don't climb any more.  The engine won't rev any higher,
and the car will not go faster then around 197 unless it's going downhill.

Is this a bug?  I know the real F1 can go well over 200mph, so it seems to be
that this isn't a very realistic thing to have happen.

Sorry, my mistake.  I had changed the car's downforce to get somewhat more
neutral handling, and I guess that's what slowed the car down.  Kinda strange
in light of the fact that the F1 has no wings to adjust, though. :)

No, I don't believe that it's a bug. Arcade mode isn't realistic (hence,
it being called arcade!) so the McLaren can get up to 230mph. But in
simulation it is a simulation of how the car would really react in such
a setting and therefore, it won't go any faster. McLaren claims that the
car gets up to 227mph or so, but this claim has never been verified.
Road & Track tried to verify it but they found that the car was rev
limited in top gear to 220mph (or somewhere close). So even in
simulation mode, NFS2 is kind of off by a bit but I guess that's how the
car would react if driven like that in Australia or something.
