Nascar 2 frame rates and things...

by Chris Zimbab » Sat, 03 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Hello
I've been reading some posts here and I've seen that everyone seems to thing
that this GP2 thing is really taxing on the fastest computers out right now.
Is Nascar 2 going to be the same way, or is it going to be pretty much the same
as 1, except with better graphics and a little (5-10) frames slower?  Anyone
have any ideas?

I believe that Nascar2 will be using the same graphics engine
as Indy2 and if that is the case then it will run a hell of a
lot faster than Nascar 1.
My PC is a P120 with 16 Meg but is only fitted with a bog
standard 1Meg video card. Indy 2 flies on with this card so I
feel confidant that Nascar 2 will as well.

I only hope they refine it a little bit. I've never got the univbe that
came with ICR2 to work with my ATI Mach64.  Even using the new SDD52,
there is no improvement.  It seems that Papy "hard-linked" their
graphics engine to the univbe that it loads and not an external one.

It might be true they are going  to use the same graphic engine, but
someone pointed out to me you won't get the same performance as in
IC2.  Mainly because there are 60+ more polygons to draw for the cars
in Nascar.
Thats what I've been told anyway, and it seems to make sense. :)

I read in Sim Racing News,
http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/~harmon/simnews/
that Nascar2 is being written to take advantage of the new "Rendition chip"
which will produce 16-bit texture mapping at 37FPS on a lowly Pentium 75.
The Rendition chip boards are not out yet. If you don't go with the
Rendition board They say "With a decent video card with 2Mb, the game
promises to run even better than the current IndyCar Racing II".

I don't know but I've been told...
