GP3: did geoff said that a "all new engine"

by * Leon » Sat, 05 Aug 2000 04:00:00

I recall an interview that he
said something like an all new
game engine will be used for GP3
instead of just updating GP2

Could anyone recall that interveiw ??

Also that as soon as GP2
was out , he was already buried in GP3
so much so that he had no time to play
GPL or anything at all, hence he could
not place GP3 anywhere in relation to
"current games"......or something like that

Thanks and regards

Are you going for the slag GP3 once per day crusade?

Get over it. Play it or return it.

Cheers,

Could it be that what Geoff was talking about was what he THOUGHT GP3 was
going to be......but now it is going to be GP4.  Perhaps they didnt quite
get the GP3 engine finished and had to try to get an Improved GP2 engine out
in order to get some money and "please" the masses?

Must of you don't know a thing about programming, but a lot about
whinning !!!!

GP3 is a re-programming of the game (GP2) from being a dos program to a
window one. Also from software graphic engine to one supporting 3D
graphic cards. So, my opinion is they have redone it, even if the menu
and some aspect of the game still look like GP2 !!!.

I got programming skill, and i know that, the GP3 team and Geoff
Crammond deserve better for what they have accomplished !!!!

It's never easy for a programmer to switch from an old programming style
(like dos) to a new one, like crappy Microsoft Windows (you must be a
programmer to understand, that one).

GP3 was the next step for them, if they would have done too much change,
people would still have complain that the game doesn't retain the
essence of what GP2 was !!! I think, in this area, they have done a good
job !!!

I predict GP4, will get quite further in improvement, since the window
platform is
already develop !!!

Good job GP3 Team and Geoff Crammond from a programmer who understand
you !!!

Bye Rosaire

If I'm not mistaken, they mentioned a rewritten PHYSICS engine. Not
necessarilly an entire GAME engine(graphics etc.. included)

And yes: the car can roll completely now, and setup changes have much
more effect.

Yup, the car can roll which is great, the problem is that is doesn't
show on replay when your own car is rolling for some reason.

It does on my version.  I got hit from behind by that eeejit Hill
coming into bridge in a very wet Silverstone.  My Stewart rolled about
three times losing all the detatchable parts (4 wheels, the entire nose
and the rear wing) before coming to rest.  I spent a good long while
watching the replay of it.

I can do both!

They didn't reprogram, they ported the code.

IMO they didn't use the full hardware potention available nowadays.

This is only an excuse for a bad programmer.

Agreed. But unlike GP2, GP3 doesn't raise the bar.

Disagreed. The current core isn't promissing for future releases, IMO.

Erm.. does here, got a lovely replay of me cartwheeling thru Tamborello,
Are you using the FPS util, it messes with the replays I believe.

Ahh, another Stewart fan! ;)

That's why I actually prefer an earlier season being modelled, to get a
chance to drive one of those cars with the tartan stripes on it.
