NASCAR modem connection problem

Hello...

I am having a very frustrating problem trying to connect with a friend to play
NASCAR.  It is a pretty weird problem so here goes...

We are both using 14.4 modems, but made my different companies.  I have a cheap
Infotel and he has a Sportster.  The very first time we tried to connect, we
were able to connect just fine and had a great time.  However, we have been
unable to connect ever since.  We hadn't touched a thing in our modem setup.
Basically, all that we do is it sounds like it is connecting just fine, and
then one of our computers will say "hanging up" and that's it.  It never even
gives it a chance to stay connected.  It happens both when I call him and he
calls me.  We have connected many times outside of NASCAR to transfer files
without any problems.  I was wondering if anyone else may have experienced
anything similar to this or would anyone have recommendations what we might
try?  As my init strig, I just have ATZ^M and he uses the one setup for his
modem by NASCAR.  Like I said, we connected great that one time, and it's been
downhill ever since.

Thanks for any input you might have...

I am not familiar with either of the modems you are using, however, I have been playing
NASCAR over Motorola Codex V.Fast modems with a friend, and it works great!  Although the
modems support speeds up to 28.8 kbps, we have found the best results when we set the modems
to link at 9.6 kbps, with Data Compression and Error Correction turned off.  The throughput
at higher speeds never exceeded 9.5 kbps therefore the modem buffers would add latency.
