The Patch: Windows XP. ;)

Seriously, ME is a horrid piece of code.  Going to XP would be one of the
best things you could do for your computer.

You are limited by the DOS/Win9x heritage of WinME.  The only Microsoft
solution is a NT-based OS:  NT4, W2K or XP.  Resources under the NT kernel
are pretty well limited only by available RAM.

I made the jump (to NT4... many years ago now) when resource limitations
prevented me from doing the work that put food on the table.  I've never
looked back :)

Don't run a crappy operating system.

9x and ME are all a bit "internally ancient".

Try 2000 or XP Pro - these should solve your excess
memory problems and probably fix a few other bugs
you have.

Thanks, I was expecting something like that. Eventually some day I'll
migrate to a better OS when I have a better hardware. Sure the limitless
resources of NT kernel is a good reason to.

hehe, I have tried XP and didn't think it was worth the trouble of getting
new drivers for everything, besides, parts of my computer are 4 years old.

But ME isn't that bad, it has served me well for the past 1 1/2 years with a
single OS installation. That system restore utility really works. I just
have to keep controlling the resources meter utility like some motor
thermometer and shut down some open applications when it goes hot red. :-)
