Sports Car GT - Worse with new Voodoo3 3000 vs. Diamond Monster II

by Mike » Sat, 08 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I have an HP Pentium II 400mhz.  I had a 12meg Diamond Monster II.  I
upgraded to a Voodoo3 3000 AGP to basically get top framerates out of GPL.
Sports Car GT ran smooth with the Diamond II, so I figured the move to a
Voodoo3 would not get better or worse.  Well, the weird thing is, with this
much better video card, the game seems to look worse.  I don't know if what
I am experience is a change in framerates during the running of the game, or
what, but it just seems like the games is dropping frames, or very
momentarily slowing down at times.  I dunno.... I did end up with 35-36 fps
in GPL, but I am just perplexed by what seems to be a feeling that SCGT is
just not as smooth... Anybody see this ?

Gee Mike, that's too bad. Have you tried the latest V3 drivers? I think
they're dated 11/99 or 12/99. If its a new V3, you can get an overclocking
utility for it and crank the core and memory from 166Mhz to 183 or more.
Maybe that would help. I may be able to find the URL for the OC'er.
