Which is the best newsgroup for trying to trace a book about Howard Hughes,
the name of which I don't know? (nor even the author,
heheh)....alt.groups.wild.goosechase, maybe?

Totally OT, but here's what I'm after:
Some years ago (about ten), I read a book that I have in my mind was written
by a personal assistant to Howard Hughes. The book contained many, many
word-for-word extracts from HH's notes written to his assistant, after the
complete notes were discovered in a warehouse in Philadelphia. I cannot
remember the name of this book - it's not "Next To Hughes", I ordered that
recently to find that it isn't - can anyone help, please? Searches of
amazon, google and yahoo have proved fruitless so far.

Very grateful for any clues...

Possibly, but I don't think so - that's a biographer, not an aide, but bless
your heart for looking, matey!

Nov 2001:

alt.groups.sprucegoosechase, surely? ;-)

<snip>

The only thing I can find that comes close is "Hughes: The Private
Diaries, Memos and Letters. The Definitive Biography of the First
American Billionaire" by Richard Hack (New Millennium Press), but
that's only come out this year.

By Robert Maheu and Richard Hack. 1992 (1993), Harper, 358pp, 7x4". "A
close advisor of Howard Hughes offers an intimate look at the

Damn - that doesn't seem to work properly. So, here's the long way
round:

Go to www.amazon.co.uk, and type "Howard Hughes: The Hidden Years" in
the search box. That should do the trick.
