ICR2 to N2, How to convert the rest of the tracks.

Here's how it's done:

You need the free version of Noonans converter that converts Cleveland and
three other tracks.

Step 1.

Rename the Cleveland track in your Indycar II tracks directory to
something. If
you have converted Cleveland to N2, rename the track in N2 as well.

Step 2.

Create a new directory in the Indycar II tracks directory, called CLEVLAND.
Then
make a TEMP directory in CLEVLAND.

Step 3.

Copy a track, let's say MIDOHIO, to the CLEVLAND directory. Rename
MIDOHIO.DAT and MIDOHIO.TXT to CLEVLAND.DAT and CLEVLAND.TXT.

Step 4.

Go to the TEMP directory in CLEVLAND and unpack the CLEVLAND.DAT with
the pack/unpack utility that can be found on any decent NASCAR site.
The TEMP directory will now contain an unpacked CLEVLAND.DAT (this is the
renamed MIDOHIO.DAT). Three files are of interest here: MIDOHIO.CAM,
MIDOHIO.SCR and MIDOHIO.TRK.

Step 5.

Run the Free converter and convert the Cleveland track to N2.

Step 6.

Go to the CLEVLAND directory in the N2 tracks directory. Create a N2TEMP
directory in the CLEVLAND directory.

Step 7.

Unpack the CLEVLAND.DAT to the N2TEMP directory. This N2TEMP directory now
contains the converted track, but some files are missing. Copy the three
files
in Step 4 (MIDOHIO.CAM, MIDOHIO.SCR, MIDOHIO.TRK) to this directory.

Step 8.

In the N2TEMP directory, look for the largest of the _xx.3do files. (xx is
a number)
It's easy to find cause it's larger than 100k as opposed to the rest of the
_xx.3do
files. Rename this file to MIDOHIO.3do.

Step 9.

Edit the CLEVLAND.PCK file that was created when you unpacked CLEVLAND.DAT
to N2TEMP. The second line describes the number of files in the DAT-file.
Increase
this number by 3.
Find the line that matches the _xx.3do you found in Step 8. Change this
line to
MIDOHIO.3do.
Add three new lines that says, MIDOHIO.CAM, MIDOHIO.SCR and MIDOHIO.TRK.

Step 10.

Pack a new CLEVLAND.DAT, using the modified CLEVLAND.PCK you just
edited.

Step 11.

Rename CLEVLAND.DAT and CLEVLAND.TXT to MIDOHIO.DAT and
MIDOHIO.TXT.

Step 12.

Rename the CLEVLAND directory in the N2 tracks directory to MIDOHIO.

Step 13.

Edit the calendar file and include MIDOHIO. If you have CLEVLAND in the
calendar
you must also rename the original Cleveland track to CLEVLAND (you renamed
it in Step 1)

Step 14.

Start N2 and test the track.

Step 15.

Delete TEMP (in Indy2) and N2TEMP (in N2) and restore the name of your
original Clevland track in IndyCar II.

There's a limit of the number of tracks in N2. I suggest you create a new
directory called TRACKS1 and place the new tracks there. Use a batch files
to alter between the tracks directories (rename them) and the calendars
(you'll
need one for each tracks directory)

There's been NO modification of David Noonans converter and we're only
converting the Cleveland track so I can't see anything illegal in this.

This tip is for FREE !!!!!!! No charges !!!

Have fun !!!

All this to convert one track.

So how much is your time worth?  This seems like a lot of time and
effort to waste simply to deprive someone else of the fruits of their
honest labors.

If you head over to the 2600 newsgroup you can find out how to rip-off
the phone company too.

I'm very surprised by the attitudes expressed by the readers of this
newsgroup.  I imagine that if Dave had asked for a $5 payment, most
people wouldn't be complaining.  When someone creates a product it's
their choice to charge whatever they want for it.  It's the consumer's
choice to buy it or not.  Unfortunately, choosing to steal it instead of
paying the desired price is much easier with software and other
intellectual property products than it is for tangible goods.

I have to agree with you there Scott, I guarantee had he only
charged a reasonable amount he would have sold the hell out of
it.  In my opinion $35 is a bit much but hey like I said before I dont
plan to buy it anyway because I dont personally care for road courses.

the bianaries newsgroup has shamed us all.  I hope whoever did it
realises that he has pretty much shot Dave down. I could see it coming
a mile away. That was WRONG!!!!!!!!  I posted myself that he has the
right to charge although I dont think he actually should is my
opinion. However he does have the right and if he chooses to still
doesn't justify that some *** did him wrong by posting the full
version.  Dave I would like to apologise and as soon as you get the
AI corrected let me know maybe I'd like to pick up a copy for myself
at cost.

Not that this is any of my concern (I don't even have ICR2) but it seems
to me it would have been the author's responsibility to make his program
'hack-proof'.  I frequently alter software I have purchased to fit my
needs as the software will allow.

If this work you will be an official cool guy of r.a.s.
Hope it works.  And it's my opinion.  We have to respect ourselves by

ICR2 to N2, How to convert the rest of the tracks.

Hi

Scott Pritchett wrote that this procedure is time-consuming.....well it
took me
app. 3 hrs to figure out how it should be done, then max 10 min /track....
I would like to state that no hacking of Davids original code has been
done, and posting the full version in a newsgroup was a very low thing to
do.

The 8-bit version of Laguna Seca is awesome !!!

Many thanks to David Noonan that wrote the FREE conversion utility, to
Gerhard Lingenberg who wrote the Brickyard Converter for Indy II and
to Alex Santantonio who wrote the Brickyard upgrade for N2.
WELL DONE !

Has anyone figured out how to overcome the limitation of 32 tracks in one
directory ? Or is it possible to point out a second track directory in the
calendar file ?

Keep on driving, folks

"Jake"
