I have heard on ITV that he is conscious and okay, if that's is true (I prey
it is) then he is one lucky guy. I was gobsmacked at how much the car was
still intact.

i am about to see the crash on channel 9's delayed "live" coverage that they
show in australia.

from all reports i fear what i am about to see.

i thought when i saw senna's accident live all those years ago that it was
live.

he was dead even before lamy ran up the back of lehto (when it happened on
australian tv)

we don't like these sort of accidents in our sport.

Ok, a but too quick of a responce by Jimmy ut you have to admit, that first
helicopter shot after they got the tyres off him was worrying how he lay
there, head to one side.

It's bearable knowing he'll be ok.
People mention the nose being intake being a good thing??? Hmmmmm.... It's a
deformable structure to take the impact of a head on collision and it hardly
had a mark besides the tip of it... I can't see how that was good for Burti.

The original message was actually posted before the crash (I know this for a
fact because this post reminded me to change channel to ITV, after which the
crash occured). Although the crash was truly horrific, I think it is obvious
that this guy was not being in any way malicious or thoughtless.

They're only designed to deform up to the end of the nosecone, the drivers
feet are directly behind the front wheel centre. Had the***pit beyond the
nose cone deformed it could have been bad for the driver

monocoque. Only the front wing seemed to be missing. It seems that the
imapct was more side-on than head-on, which makes me think how fortunate he
was that the car didn't roll after the initial impact...

We discussed this in work today, and concluded that the tyre wall
actually stopped the nose from reaching the wall - ripping off the
front suspension in the process, and probably stopping the car on the
sidepods.

We also suspect that tyres meeting Burti's helmet saved his head from
being slammed against the steering wheel in a ~16g deceleration -
possibly a better option.

the Burti crash.
