>I got a laugh out of that movie. Cruise' character (Trickle? Any relation
>to*** Trickle?) is second at Darlington and caution comes out with 3 laps
>to go. The entire field decides to come in for fresh tires for a one lap
>shootout. I don't think so.

>Also, how many times did he spin, avoid hitting anything or being hit, and
>then a lap or two later, he's back breathing down the neck of the leader.
>Should've flat-spotted the tires, but no, he's running laps faster than
>anybody including the leader, and blowing by cars 4 and 5 at a time.

Any of us that travel in our work know that, at least the rental car scene
was pretty realistic :o)

Oh yeah....does the name Dale Earnhardt ring any bells?  :)

reguard to reality...

Funny thing is the driver is loosely (and I mean *loosely*) based on Tim
Richmond.  It's a character thing.

I loved that one too.  Any crew chief worth spit would have told him with
less than 10 to go 'stay out there and hold 'em off!!!'

There was a time way back before anyone watched NASCAR on TV when drivers
could take a spin and get back in the race.  Of course not just any driver
could do it, it took a big money name/team.

I bet quite a few folks did.  What I've been told is all that stuff is
loosely (there I am using that word again) based on events that have
happened to real teams at various points in history.

BTW, the crew chief was supposedly based on the life and character of Harry
Hyde.  With a few artisitic touches, of course.

{edited for brevity}

I was thinking that when I watched the movie. Cruise' character roaring up
on that bike to tryout at C***te and his***y attitude and hip clothes.
His crew chief's name was Harry Hogg or something like that, right? Just a
little too similar to Harry Hyde to be coincidence I think. Cruise co-wrote
the screenplay if I remember correctly and is a bit of a race fan himself.
I think he also did some of the driving.

Too bad they sacrificed reality for spectacle, but that seems to be the way
most movies are made these days.

Incidentally, Days of Thunder is on network TV tonight (Tuesday) at
8PM on none other than CBS.  As if anyone cares....

I like the part in the movie where Rusty Wallace?? says "If I see him,
I'll slam him into to wall!",  (or something close to that!)

No Rusty said he liked Cole. That was some goofy actor who said he stuff
Cole in the wall.
