Just watched 'Days of Thunder' for the first time. My, but we have a long
way to go to achieve anything NEAR track realism!
I once, somehow and I haven't been able to repeat it, had my game
configured so that when I hit the brakes or down shifted, the nose of the
car would drop and then come up when I accelerated, just like you could see
the cars in this film do. Apart from that, it looks like we should have a
LOT more smoke and dust on the track whenever there's contact.
Anyway, great flick (esp. Robert Duvall). If, like me, you were apparently
under a rock when this came out, check it out from your local flick store.

"So long....and thanks for all the fish!"
PS: If anyone can tell me how to configure a T2 setup to achieve the
chassis movement I once had, I'd REALLY
be grateful!!!!

Well it was a movie and so alot of the smoke & sparks were PURE
FICTIONAL FX.  In NASCAR by Papyrus, my car's nose dips if just get out
of the throttle...

Speaking of Days of Thunder....  Did anybody out there try the "turkey"
of a "sim/game" with the same name?  It made Bill Elliott's NASCAR
Challenge look like an IMAX movie.

Yeah, heh, I always *loved* that bit where Randy (is it?) says
Something like "I'm gonna put this rookie into the wall") over his
radio. Yeah right, and about 2 seconds after the crash he'd of seen
his Nascar ticket blowing across the track in little pieces. :)

This was absolutely the worst movie that was ever made!  The only realistic
part of the movie was the fact that a couple of the cars were actual race
cars!  Other than that the WHOLE movie was someone's imagination!

"Tight" and "loose" are just terms. If he said "The backend is coming
around", his crew would know what to do. If he said "it wont turn",
you'd know it was tight.

I'd be willing to be that there have been more than a few guys who
didn't know the "terms" before working with someone who taught them.

character, drove in two or three races before it became known that he
knew nothing about setup, what tight or loose was, etc.  Sure made
NASCAR Racing out to be an amateur free-for-all.

What I was talking about was the scene showing Cole's third race or
so.  Cole's complaining that the car won't drive, and Robert Duvall's
character has to explain to him what tight, or understeer, and loose,
or oversteer, is, and that the pit crew can do things to change that,
which Cole also didn't know was possible.
I mean, we're talking the top series in the country!  This isn't where
the drivers just learn the basics of stock car racing.  That's what
BGN is for!  :)

Isn't that what ALL movies are? Actually alot of the Nascar Folklore was
found in that movie just not all that stuff happened to one guy in one
season.

Just wanted to let you know that "Days of Thunder" is NOT real
NASCAR racing. You can't run people into the wall like that and
get away with it. Not only would you get the black flag or get
DQed, the person in the wall would probably stay there. Just one
example why "Days of Thunder" isn't realistic. The actors think
that a stock car can easily do 250 or 260 mph. Yeah right.

Days of Thunder, is not all that unrealistic (for its time yes), but
back in the old days when Richard Petty WAS the King that's how racing
gained it's popularity.  That's how I think they wanted to depict Days
of Thunder.  Check out Inside Sports August issue toward the back of the
mag.

So long,

I got a laugh out of that movie. Cruise' character (Trickle? Any relation
to*** Trickle?) is second at Darlington and caution comes out with 3 laps
to go. The entire field decides to come in for fresh tires for a one lap
shootout. I don't think so.

Also, how many times did he spin, avoid hitting anything or being hit, and
then a lap or two later, he's back breathing down the neck of the leader.
Should've flat-spotted the tires, but no, he's running laps faster than
anybody including the leader, and blowing by cars 4 and 5 at a time.

The NASCAR teams must've gotten a big laugh out of this one. I sure did.
