I though I read a post awhile back were someone talked about how to adjust
the feel of FF in N3 to make it feel more realistic. Could someone point me
in the right direction. I'm using a Logitech WM FF if that make a difference
Thanks for any help

Add the following lines to the N3.ini file in the Nascar3 directory:

FORCE_SCALE_PERCENT 100
FORCE_DAMPING_PERCENT 100

Just fiddle with the numbers.  I don't fully understand what they do.
Increasing either number makes the effects more powerful.  I'm not even sure
if 100 is the default, actually.  You should be able to feel when you go
onto the apron and when the tires lose grip once you get it right.  Enjoy.

N3- Adjusting FF feel.

Hi Marc,

I've got the Force RS hooked up right now, but I think I was using the same
(or very close) settings for each wheel.
N3.ini
FORCE_SCALE_PERCENT 200
FORCE_DAMPING_PERCENT 200

Windows:
Overall Device Gain:    100%
Spring Gain:                    55%
Damper Gain:                 55%

The wheel doesn't oscillate when the car is still, and does only a little
when moving (that's the way I like it). When I want to make a change, like
if the wheel was oscillating, I change the Windows settings for Gain and
Damper evenly, and leave the N3.ini settings alsways at 200. I can get rid
of wheel oscillation by just turning up the Gain, but I feel I don't get as
good subtle force effects that way, so I'd suggest increasing both to get
rid of it. Still, I'm open for suggestions ;)

I'll try those settings, now.  Do you use the same for GPL, or do you have
to adjust the control panel every time you switch games?

By the way, there are v1.23 drivers out on the Guillemot site.  They are
about 10-15% stronger, but otherwise seem to be the same as the originals :(

N3- Adjusting FF feel.

by GTX_SlotCa » Fri, 03 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Unfortunately, I have to adjust the control panel when I switch games. I
don't use any default spring or damping in the control panel for GPL. Well,
actually, I have experimented with a little damping in the control panel for
GPL to put more stiffness in the wheel. When I did this I left the core.ini
damping at 4000 but lowered the value of torque to counteract the effect of
the damping in control panel. It did work, and made the wheel stiffer in
gameplay without much loss of subtle FF, but I always go back. I guess I
just like the wheel to feel light.

I think the FF in N3 must be a carryover from N1 or something. I really
don't think it's very well done (just my opinion). N3 would be great with
GPL type FF, but I don't really think we'll see too many games in the future
programming FF with Vector Forces the way GPL does. It's just to difficult
to do it right. Really a shame. I-Force seems to be pushing Spring type FF
too, maybe because it's so easy to program.

I'll check to see what version driver I have for the Ferrari, but it might
be the latest. I know it's the same as the Act Labs driver, and that's
version 1.23. It's really the same I-Force driver, just that one has the Act
logo and the other the Ferrari logo. When I switch wheels, I often don't
switch drivers. So I might run the Ferrari wheel, but it says Act Labs Force
RS in control panel, for example, or the other way around.

N3- Adjusting FF feel.

Thanks for your feedback.  I don't think there will be much difference in
the driver from what I can see....it's just the 1.23 IForce driver with the
Guillemot logo.

Marc.
