Ok guys, after 4 days playing with F1RS, I give up, i'm tired to have so
many crashes, to have to reboot most of the time, and ubisoft not answering
my email....

My F1RS is for sale, i will reinstall GP2.

What kind of "crashes" are we talking about here, are these your car
or your PC? :)

If you e-mail me a few details of what happens I'll try to help. It
runs absolutely perfectly on my system, no slowdowns, no stutters,
fast menus and only one lockup in six days of racing. All we need to
do is track down the crucial difference between your system and mine,
then drag it outside and "take care of it".

Cheers!

Hi John,

I saw the original post and thought that's exactly what mine does so
here is my setup, hope you can help ;

Pentium 166
Matrox Millenium 4Mb WRAM
Orchid Righeous 3Dfx 4Mb

32Mb Ram & 45Mb Windows Swap File (on Drive D:), game
didn't run at all until I changed this from 32Mb to 45Mb)

Sound Blaster 32 + 8Mb
Adaptec 2940 UW SCSI Card
Toshiba XM3601 4x SCSI CD-ROM Drive
U.S. Robotics 33.6 Sportster Vi Internal Modem

Software / Drivers :
Windows 95 : OSR 1 (original August '95 Release)
Version of Game Installed : Minimum 3Dfx Install (67Mb)
Indeo : Re-Installed straight off the F1RS CD-ROM
DirectX : Version 5, straight off the F1RS CD-ROM
Glide : 2.43, straight off the F1RS CD-ROM

Hard Disk Free Space :
C: 69.9Mb (this is where Windows 95 resides)
D: 57Mb (this is where the game is installed)

Other factors : Just to point point out, this is the only Win 95 /
DirectX 5 game that causes trouble.I have POD (the full game)
and that works perfectly, I have also run Tomb Raider II demo,
G-Police Demo and Turok Demo all use 3Dfx and DirectX 5 and
worked no problem.

Crashes :

The game crashes in different places sometimes when loading up a
track just before the race. Also whilst in the game the thing just
locks up, the screen freezes and the sound is constant.

Hope you have some ideas, if you need any further info E-mail
me on either :

Cheers

Mark Elliott

I'm guessing, but it may be that this is a memory issue. Is it
possible for you to borrow another couple of SIMMs from somewhere and
try with 48 or 64Mb? My system is very similar to yours, I also have
Soundblaster, PCI SCSI, SCSI CD-ROM, modem etc etc, the main
differences being that I am using the full install of F1RS and I have
64Mb RAM.

From looking at your hard disk space it doens't look like you have
space to do a full install? I wondered if perhaps there's some
conflict when trying to load the CD data from the SCSI? I have a SCSI
and an IDE CD-ROM, and the only crash I had was with the CD in the
SCSI. Since I've never seen it repeated that could easily be
coincidence though. Perhaps a full install where it doesn't need to
look at the CD at all would help?

Cheers!

Well, I've got 40 mo of ram, I will remove the 2x4 Mo simms to be sure
to have the very same simms in the system. I'm ready to buy more memory
if i'm sure its the pb

I also have SCSI CDROM, and no IDE one so i can not try. I installed the
complete game and have 600 Mo free ....

John,

Here is the Email i sent to UBI, maybe you'll be able to help me (ubi still
didn't not answer)!
(originally in french)
...
I have a lot of crashes during the game, which put me back in win95. I
installed win95 only for F1RS... The crashes can be during the race (tried
25%, and 100%), but most of them are
when i crash in the race, i want to restart, so i press escape and ask for
end of the race (btw restart does not work !!), i have all the laps with the
different times of the other drivers till the last lap... and then it should
go back to the panel where i can go to the next race, save, replay ... etc,
but it doesn't go there, instead i have a page fault :

F1VOO a caus une dfaillance de page dans (means page fault)
le module F1VOO.EXE 0137:00556836.

following is the configuration of my system :

AMD K6 233, asus T2P4, SCSI card  SC875 + disk SCSI
SEAGATE 2.1Go, + IDE 1.3 Go 40 Mo RAM EDO, Monster 3d, Thrustmaster T1,
Win95 (tryed with OSR1 and 2 : same pb), Matrox Mystic, Pionner 12 x scsi,
SB 32 Awe...

Installed full game + Direct x5 + glide from the CD ....

I'M  LOST !!!!

I hope that UBI is not responding because they are working at the patch !!!

BTW, i red that this game doesn't work with AMD K5  with Direct 3d card on
www.f1racingsim.com FAQ.... I hope that's not for K6 ????

Thanks in advance...

Dear All,

I have turned off the 'replay' feature in the configure options and
spent an un-interupted 1.5hours playing (no crashes etc.), god I even
saw the 'Are you sure you wish to exit' screen, I usually get back to
Win95 desktop after a nice error message or two.

I have also deleted some more stuff off my hard disks to get even more
free space, jeez this game needs serious HD Space/Memory/Swap File
space. It was never like this witg GP2 or POD, oh well that's progress
for you !!!.

Hope this helps someone out.

Cheers,

Mark Elliott

Hi everybody,

I, first, would like to thank the people who helped me (unfortunatly none
from UBI ! )
because you were all of you right ! all my pb are coming from replays, and
as i thought i had disabled it, i was wrong on this :
Most of the time i was reloading a saved game to continue the championship,
and when you reload a saved game DURING the race, u don't seem to have a way
to disable the replay (didn't look in help - though) if , when u started the
game, it was enabled. That's why most of the time it was active in my
game...

I also found another trouble which is kind of weird... If you have your
windows started in 256colors and in 640*480, then u won't be able to load a
game : all the down part of the screen (corresponding to the taskbar) is not
responding ! But if u go into a higher definition (1024*768 in my case -
didnt try in 800*600) it works... thats what they say in the readme but i
think it's not clear !!

Now, see u back on the tracks i hope :-) !

I'm interested, how much do you ask for it?
