<snip>

Don't you notice the track texture ? The track appears to stop and then
crawl backwards! At low speeds F1 looks great - it feels like you are driving.
At higher speeds all the graphics glitches make it feel like your standing still
- the crawling track texture, the wierd fence moire effects, the stuttering
framerate.

Don't the cars look elongated and warped to you ?

Anyone with a p166 or above, get GP2 - turn off sky and wingmirror texturs
set frame rate to 16 or above and play. Even at 18/19fps GP2 is much
much smoother than F1, no stutter, no ugly pop-ups, no wierd track textures,
poper car handling/collision great AI, great cars, great game

:On a P133 with GLquake you should be getting 30 fps at 640x480 and 40 fps at
:512x384. The majority play at 512 with the extra 10 frames. If your not in the
:ball park here you have a problem.

Not true. Sure you get 30 fps in some places, but we were talking about
_constant_ 30 fps here. On my P133, most of the time glQuake is pretty
smooth in 512x384 (near 30 fps), but in places like, umm, fourth
level of Mission Pack 1, or "DarkNite", I get probably less than
10 fps in many cases, and about 15 fps most of the time.

I have tried all the "SET" commands to speed up the frame rate of glQuake,
and I don't get even near to 40 fps. 30 fps is good enough for me though,
only if it would be constant, which it isn't.

My motherboard is an Intel Endeavor with a Pentium 133, 256kB PB cache,
24MB non-EDO 70 ns RAM etc. My system works fine with other games, and I
even get better results in games like Virtua Fighter PC than many others
on their P133 machines, so I don't think it is because of my system.

If you have some easy advice to reach constant 40 fps in glQuake
(say, in timedemo demo1), sure, I'm listening. So far, I've always
been little under 30 fps in 512x384.

Since we are talking about jerky 3dfx games, how about 3dfx
Mechwarrior 2? Try the training mission on the ice planet, I get
something like 5-10 fps when the battle heats up. Great game
anyway, though.

Tiitus,

The processor is the limiting factor at 512x384 in GLQuake... see the
thread about "my Flash 3D Experience" for more info.

I get 54fps TIMEDEMO DEMO2 at 512x384 in GLQUAKE on a 225MMX, while my
P5-133 with 3dfx card (same settings) gets only about 43fps.

QBM:

Titanium:

I meant on timedemo 1. I'm sorry but I get 40 fps on a P133 at 512 rez. I'll
restate I use this mode siince there will be places the frames will drop. So
when they do drop they won't fall as far as if you were in 640 mode. I feel
I'll always be at least 5 frames above what 640 mode offers in the worse case
scenario.

Is the 4th level of Pack 1 the outside level. If so that's a whole nother
problem.

I don't know what to say I get 30 at 640.

Let me investigate... But I'm tellin ya your not getting what you should be. I
would say as a minimum a P133 in timedemo 1 should be getting 35.

Opinions please ?

Yes. Formula 1 is the first game to use Rendition's Windows API,
Redline.

It's normal that people had high expectations of it, they all played
Gp2!!  With a beta demo game like that, the first SERIOUS F1 simulator
that would be out after Gp2 had to be the greatest game ever.  I think
it should a a big contender for #1 F1 game place, because of it's
Arcade/simulator mix.  It's an all-around very good game, and i would
recommand it to any F1 race fan.

Good race at the Brickyard,  (-o-)

blahed:

Get a more powerful cpu an remove the jerkiness - 3DFX can't do
everything !   The cpu has to work out who is shooting who, who is
flying throught the air in 1000 pieces etc.

Any one know what the Rendition version is like ?

Not as good or fast as 3DFX - only advantage is that you can run 512x384
resolution to get faster framerate but it still doesn't match up to the
voodoo (which is also a tad bit too slow for this game.) - tells ya
something about the framerate!!!!!!!!!!!
