Well I have tried the patched demo of CPR and now I think I
understand. Funny how this patched demo was released at about the same
time as The winter Olypics began in Nagano. Because this is obviously a
tobbogin(sp?) sim. When they fix the graphics to show the tobbogins and
the track as ice it will be great. And a new name like "Tobbogin
Precision Racing" would be good too! Now I understand why the brakes
lock so easily and the car? doesn't steer:))))
I suppose, to be fair, I will try some of the setups at the Apex and
post back later. But at this point I am amazed that they could take a
bad sim and make it even worse :(((((

I'm not sure what you meant, but the brakes don't lock easily unless you really
get on them (for me).  You have to brake smooth.  Try changing the brake bias
setting.

You shouldn't need to. The huge downforce at high speed should serve
to make it much more difficult to lock the brakes at high speed
compared to low speed. As the speed drops so the downforce drops (drag
being a square function of speed) and the grip afforded to the tyres
also drops - then it becomes easier to lock the now more lightly
loaded tyres.

CPR makes little discernable difference in this aspect, and wheels
lock as easily at 190mph as they do at 19mph.

Cheers!

He should have asked around.  due to the different grip levels that the new
patch produces, the setups included with the game or any he had worked on
will be totally hopeless.  Once he has sampled some new setups, maybe he'll
feel different.  Then again, maybe not!

Not quite, but close.  Check out my update on the patch at Digital
Sports for my braking explanation :)

Okay, 195mph and 22mph then ;-)  That's certainly been my experience,
and despite major messing around with the setup the fronts lock with
the merest flicker of brake being applied.

Actually my biggest gripe about CPR is the "auto-steering" which is
utterly infuriating, but that's another moan altogether.

Cheers!

I don't know what to tell you, John.  I am able to threshold brake
into chicanes into Australia without locking them up.  If your
statement were true this would not be possible.

I don't have steering problems with CPR anymore.  The car goes where I
tell it to.

Wow voice activated steering! I guess that should be the next F1 innovation.

The point I'm making is that the brakes are equally sensitive at 19mph
and 190mph - that doesn't affect your ability to "threshold brake"
(new one on me!), but it isn't right.

Drive as slowly as you can, and parallel to a wall - do it using rear
chase view. EVER so slowly give the wall the merest kiss, and watch
what happens to your front wheels. Realistic? It's a hell of a lot
more spectacular at high speeds too.

If you kiss the wall on an oval you should basically stick there,
slowing down by minus that side of your car. In CPR you bounce BACK
across the track, pinballing god knows where.

Cheers!

Gee Randy, why didn't you tell us all this before. No wonder I've had
so many problems, hehehehehehe.
