Eutechnyx have acquired the rights to produce the Officially Licenced Game of
the gruelling Le Mans 24 Hour Race.
The home of the 24 Heures du Mans, the Circuit de la Sarthe, attracts crowds
from all over the world to experience this unique racing event which since the
golden age of the classic Bentleys to the Listers, Jaguars and Ferraris of the
90's has represented the ultimate challenge to man and machine.
"We're very proud to be associated with the legendary 24 Heures du Mans", said
Eutechnyx PR Manager Kev Shaw, "and Le Mans GT Racing is a game that captures
the e***ment, glamour and energy of this world-famous race."
Le Mans GT Racing is a driving simulation that allows players to compete in
this unique event on a track that is accurately modelled on the Circuit de la
Sarthe, plus race on an additional series of tracks designed especially for the
game. Beginning in the GT2 class, skillful players proceed on to the more
powerful GT1 class and then, when their driving skills have reached perfection,
they are given the chance to take the wheel of the super-fast Prototype cars.
Realism is the key to this game, with the cars being modelled in conjunction
with the racing teams who actually compete at the event and the official ACO
rules being employed to deliver the most accurate simulation possible. Each of
the 40 cars can be modified to suit the player's driving style then tested
before being re-tuned and altered until maximum performance is acheived.
Because the event is an endurance race over 24 hours, players will experience
both day and night-time driving [featuring real-time light sourcing, time-lapse
simulation and realistic headlight effects], with pit-stops being essential for
repairs, refuelling, driver changes and fine engine tuning.
However, if that all sounds a little complex, don't worry. Included is an
Arcade Option for players who just want to race and would rather not deal with
such issues as gear ratios, suspension set-up and tyre selection. At the other
end of the scale is the unique Endurance Mode, where races take place over 24
hours - in real time. Save and Load options are, of course, included...
Le Mans GT Racing will also be one of the most technically accomplished games
on the PlayStation, as it runs in high resolution and features twenty cars
competing simultaneously in the race - all modelled from over five-hundred
polygons. Added to this are life-like shiny/reflective surfaces and real-time
lighting effects, making Le Mans GT Racing one of the most realistic looking
racing games ever.
Le Mans GT Racing will be released on Sony PlayStation this Winter, published
by Infogrames, with a PC version to follow.

>>If done correctly, I would buy a PSX just for this game!
In my case, this game and Gran Turismo! I've been tempted for
months now, and this the LeMans game could push me over the edge.
GT only? But I wanted to drive those crazy single seat spyders!

If so, and you were running by yourself, that would mean you would probably be in the
lead since it would mean that you had not crashed or suffered any other problem for a
LOOOONG time :) If you look at the results of the last 24 hour race at Mid Ohio, you will
see that no team had less than 2 problems, which meant restarting with a 40 car field.
But you do raise a good point. There are ways around it however but ICR2 is a bit old
to bother with them I'd say. Watch the MIR site when GPL is released! I'd say an enduro
season based on GPL is a very good bet. And an equally good bet that a 24 hour race will
be held at the Ring :))) You aint sim raced till you've done a 24hr! A very unique and
memorable experience I can tell you :) The ultimate TEAM event!

Well, this is sort of what I was alluding to about a workaround for all of the CCs
dropping out. My theories ;
Drivers just do as many laps as possibe within a specified time.
eg in a 6 hour race, possibly 4 stints of 1 1/2 hours ie each driver must do as many laps
as possible within 1 1/2 hours. Obviously this means starting from scratch (ie full field)
each time. With ICR2 this was easily done by transfering racesaves. If GPL offers no way
to quit and save results before the end then this method is out, leading to
A race with a fixed # of laps instead of a fixed time period. The director could then
break down the race into a set amount of stints.
eg 100 laps of the Ring broken down into 10 10 lap stints ie 10 lap races/stint
This would be good because hopefully the director would hold all driver between stints,
waiting for all drivers to come in and report, so that all drivers knew the current
situation. Of course, you could not afford to wait TOO long, but this would tell a story
anyway :)
