Okay, as background, I'm mostly a PC simmer. I bought a PSX strictly for GT
(then GT2), and a cheap DC for F355, secondarily for Sega GT.
My main beefs with SGT have been posted here. They are:
Horrid control - This is far and away my main issue. While analog, it seems
near digital with the stock DC controller. Non-stop overshoot on each steering
motion, just like pilot induced oscillation (PIO) in planes. This may be due
to the mediocre controller, but note I have mastered its use in F355 and TD:Le
Mans. It isn't worth playing solely due to this.
Poor track design. There is little interesting about these tracks. Too wide,
turns are not connected in any challenging manner. Not realistic
(cobblestones? Concrete walls perpendicular to your line of travel?).
Uninspired graphics. Yes the resolution and polygon count shames GT2. Hard to
describe, but the overall effect is of cars made of clay. The color schemes
are partly to fault. They are generic and are very flat and dull. To me, the
Bleemcast'd GT2 cars look a lot more like the real ones, jaggies and polgyon
count be damned.
GT2 certainly has its faults which I've also harped on before. Read Randy
Magruder's excellent reviews at the www.digitalsportspage.com. Basically, the
AI isn't. Catch-up needs to be disabled. And damage needs to be incorporated
to avoid the bumper-car racing. Quite possibly, all of these are present in
SGT too. But if I can't control it, I won't play long enough to verify.
Okay, I won't :-)
