I've seen this title appearing on shelves in the UK recently. Presumably
it's a Dreamcast port, as DC sites have the only reviews I can find on the
net. That said, those reviews reckon it's the DC's answer to Sony's Gran
Turismo. Anyone tried it on the PC? Is it a must-have, or a 10-day return?

Thanks in advance,

Rick.

return?

More like "immediate return", from what I've heard. Think that new
Activision
"Supercar Challenge", with INFERIOR graphics. (FYI, that Activision game
for
only 4.3/10 rating from Gamespot.com)

Total and utter rubbish, another class product from that great publisher
Empire. Dont go near it is my advice.

I have the DC version.  I find it vastly inferior to the PS GT series.  Queries
to this ng similar to yours re: the PC version have resulted in uniformly
negative replies.  If I recall, at least one who ignored and bought returned it
immediately.  Don't bother.

10 day return or quicker! Not good at all

Makes you wonder a bit, when a publisher has no problems in releasing a game
that is so bad. Obviously a complete lack of respect for their customers,
but I guess the lack of a demo should be a warning.

Blimey - must be bad!

Thanks for the tip.

You have to consider the following factors also:

1) It's a port, which costs a lot less than a game developed from
scratch.

2) It's a budget title (usually like $20 in stores), and those have
lower
expectations.

3) it's an arcady game, which means you should expect too much
"real-life"
stuff.

As long as the game sticks with its rules, you can play it fine. The
problem
mainly in this case is the game PRETENDS to be a car sim, when it is
not.
It's basically a fancy "Outrun".

Heck, how can you "sideslip" in an ANTI-GRAV vehicle like in Star Wars
Racer? Huh? Yet no one ever complains about that. :-)  Yet people
complain
about car sims all the time. :-)  Different expectations. ;-)

I've got it for DC, and it's awful.  The graphics are great, the gameplay is
excellent, but it's impossible to drive the cars.  The only way I've found
to win is to create hugely powerful cars and only accelerate in a straight
line.  I only do the drag racing tacks now - too much effort to do anything
else.

Out of curiosity, what's better about Gran Turismo?  I have Sega GT and Gran
Turismo 2 with Bleemcast and I find both of them equally good/bad (not sure
why I bought them..)  Please don't say that Gran T has realistic handling!

GT has consistent and interesting physics models. You can feel the
difference cornering when the weight is thrown over the front wheels and
when its not. You can feed the power in gently to give controllable
oversteer. It may not be totally realistic enough for you, but it's
consistent and damned good fun.

Also, BLEEM doesn't have the PSX controllers. Hang on, you said 'bleemcast'
and not just 'bleem'. Are you sure you're talking about the PlayStation game
Gran Tourismo 2? :-)

I am talking about Gran Tourismo here, not Sega GT. :-)

Bleemcast is a Playstation emulator for the Dreamcast.

At least GPL is consistent.  Sega GT goes from understeer to snap oversteer
and is completely uncontrollable.  I've spent hours on it, and have no more
ability to control it than at the start!
