CART Precision Racing... Too easy, Difficulty settings?

by John Harwo » Thu, 13 Nov 1997 04:00:00

Just picked up CART Racing and decided to try out Milwaukee.  On my
second race there (5% race length, 12 car field, default 'Milwaukee
sample' setup, professional difficulty setting) I lapped the entire
field in the 10 laps of the race.  This was with no setup tweaking
(the sample one is quite good) and a full load of fuel.  I was running
laps in the high 180's to low 190's.

Someone please tell me I'm missing another difficulty setting beside
the rookie/professional one.  I'm hoping there's some way to make the
computer cars at least drive a competitive race.  At least Indycar
allowed you to set the computer cars to go faster than was possible
for you to go.

Suggestions would be most appreciated.

Hi John,

You've encountered a problem that several people on RAS have also found.
The AI in CART is not great on most ovals. We're working on a patch now to
address this. In the meantime, you can try the following:
1) Racing other people at www.zone.com. Real people are better than AI
2) Race other tracks. Miami has decent AI perf. On the road courses, the AI
is much better (although still not perfect.

I see.

I don't really see this as much of a solution. It seems the person with the
pirated copy of the game who claimed that the AI was disappointing was not
joking.

Is the AI in the road courses any better than in the trial version? Of course
you know that in the trial version the AI will take you out & crash into your
rearend if they are close enough in the turns.

First off, thanks very much for the prompt reply Eric, that counts for
quite a bit in my book.

That said, "Race other people on www.zone.com"?!?!?  I think I could
have come up with that one myself.  Point is I tested Nascar Online
for about a year or so and find racing with random folks can
occasionally be a tad irritating.  Also would be nice to use an online
service that doesn't force me to use a particular web browser... ahem.

Sorry, didn't intend to turn this into a rant and I do appreciate the
suggestion about Miami, I was quite looking forward to racing that
track anyway.  The main problem is that I enjoy racing 100% length
race seasons and it's a tad difficult to find a full field of people
who are willing to do that exactly when I want and perhaps race for 5
or 6 straight hours, so I was naturally looking forward to taking on
the computer.

As long as a fix will be reasonably quick in coming, I guess that'll
be fine, otherwise it's back to Indycar II.  Will you post in RAS when
any progress has been made?

Again, sorry for my tone, but I'm a tad frustrated/disappointed by
this.  I've been waiting for this title for quite some time and to see
it scuttled by something as obvious as this is unfortunate.  Oh well,
I guess I can always put on a ton of wing and slow my car down :(
