A couple of months ago I posted about my rather sad first experience of
VROC. Lots of warping and no-one turning up to race but that's all
changed. After a few weeks of turning myself from a GPL newbie to a GPL
not-so-newbie I've become more consistent and got myself a new ISP too.
WOW what a difference. VROC pings are now down to <300 and often <240
and I had about 10 really good races on saturday. I even won one! An F2
race at monza where, for some reason, I was 3secs a lap faster than
everyone else! Mind you F2 seems a lot easier after F1.
Practice certainly pays off. After struggling with F1 cars for 2 months
I did a month of F2 driving then went back to F1 with much improved
success.
Anyway, I had lots of fun, mostly round spa and kyalami with some good
races, mind you, the starts are mental! I ended up skipping practice and
just starting at the back. Wait for the flag, wait a second then start,
this allows everyone ahead of me to crash at eau rouge and hey presto,
last to 6th by the top of the hill :)
On the whole the racing was very gentlemanly too. I only got punted
twice and I managed not to hit anyone (unless they spun infront and I
had nowhere to go) and I had several side by side encounters that passed
off cleanly despite not being able to see the other car. Great fun. See
you all again soon....
