Not only that, but Graham Hill and Phil Hill had small parts in the film. As I
recall, the developers of GPL used the movie for lots of their inspiration.

Oh, that's most kind of you, John.
Please send them...I'd be delighted to add them to my collection.
I assume that you are talking digital images and not hard-copies?  If
so...simply send them to my e-mail address John.  If not, then let me know
and I'll give you a postal address.

Thanks again for the offer.

I said it bears no resemblance to GPL in "REALITY", meaning historical
accuracy. I was merely pointing out that in context of running the Monza
banking, (The original question) Frankenheimer would have had trouble seeing
Jean-Pierre*** out of a tree, 30 feet in the air  <G>

Of course there was some resemblance Chris. They were 3-litre F1 cars of the
same decade after all.

This is true. The director (JF) used the same artistic licence that was used
in picking up tracks for the fictitious season, and even the fact that most
of the cars were a motley collection of "paint jobs", with a fair proportion
of them not even being GP cars at all.

I beg to differ. The British GP was run at Silverstone in 1967. Not Brands
Hatch as in the film :-)

Cheers Chris

Thanks for that, it's very interesting, and answers a question that I'd
had since seeing the banking location in GPL.  It also answers the
original questioner's point "when the cars went round the parabolica, the
corner didnt look as sharp as the corner in gpl either", that's because
they were running on the 'big' parabolica which joins the track at the
start of the long straight (however, I thought this was banked, so maybe
I'm totally confused).

For the first time though, the film makes sense to me - they look like
they were running a double loop one inside the other, but I don't know
whether the track was ever run in this configuration.

Cheers,

Steve.
