modem ini strings question

by Simon Brow » Tue, 02 Oct 2001 21:17:03

Hi,

Does anyone know how to get a 33k connection using a modem ini string?  On
my old anologue modem, "AT+MS=11" and "+MS=11" both work, but these didn't
work for my friend on his modem.  Are these settings unique to each modem,
or should they work on all modems?

We're trying to eliminate lag problems to run a GPL vroc league.  I'm
hosting on cable modem (128k upstream), and there are three clients
connecting through 56k dial-up.  I've read in several different places that
if the clients connect at 33k, it will help to reduce lag.

Any help would be much appreciated,
TIA,
Simon.

It depends alot on the modem, and whether it properly supports a full set of
AT commands, many, especially those terrible s/w modems(WinModems) don't.

Simon:

On my Creative Labs modem, even though Creative states that "MS=11" is
the right code, I had to input "MS=V34"; it dropped the speed right
down, and now it works perfectly.

Cheers for the help, in the end we managed to get a decent connection.  In
was turning off  'software compression' that sorted it out.
