GPL steadycam, how to turn it off?

GPL steadycam, how to turn it off?

Is there any way to make the camera always behave the way it does during
replay, fixed to the chassis? This would make driving easier and more
realistic, as I would better feel all the small movements of the car.

Do a test: When the car's stopped, do some revving. Notice how the car
moves on your screen (watch the mirrors), and the horizon stays mostly put.
Now, look at the replay of you revving (in-car view): The horizon moves,
and the car stays put.

Are you saying that your neck muscless are rock solid and your head would
not move at all if you were sitting in a racing car? ;)

There is a way to do that which involves editing the F10 view in the gpl exe
file, but I don't know the details. And you will not see the gauges in the
***pit.

I'm amazed that you think that the slight movement (anti-steadycam
actually) is less realistic.  It's one of the things that makes the GPL
experience much more immersive, in my opinion, and I always found that
it was annoying that it wasn't showing that way in the replays.

I doubt that there's a way to remove it while in-car anyway, if that's
your preference.

Cheers,
Bob Simpson

Found a way to get rid of that head emulation, had to edit a camera file
and player.ini. I prefer being able to immediately feel which way the car
is moving, instead of feeling which way the driver's head is moving. I'd
rather drive the car than the head :)

After a few laps with the camera fixed to the chassis, I must say I like
it. For me it definitely gives a more realistic feel. The car seems to
react quicker (of course it really doesn't), and more importantly, my own
reactions are also quicker, no delay caused by the scenery moving a bit
later than the car. Bumps and camber changes are now more evident. And
I've been playing GPL for maybe 3 years already. Now I have another sense
available: balance.

Just my opinion but when you're driving any car much less a race car your
head (and body) move depending on the centrifugal forces being applied to
it. That was one of the realistic things about GPL. It tried to mimic the
forces your body would be facing as well.

Any efforts made to emulate centrifugal forces and inertia in a "flat"
medium such as a video screen are weak compromises at best.
It is impossible, utterly impossible, to simulate such forces through
graphics alone.
The middle ear and the "seat of the pants" are ingredients missing from the
recipe.

No argument but at least they attempted it.

While I like it the way it is, would you mind posting your changes, or a
writeup on how you did it?
