Ouch. The tree looks unscathed at 155 mph. Not too sure that travelling at a
sensible speed limit as the site suggests would have helped against that
tree, although arguably he wouldn't have hit in the first place depending
upon the circumstances that caused the accident.

No, it's the Autobahn (highway), and funny enough "Baum" means "Tree"...

That's crumple zones for ya... hit that tree with a 1955 Buick and you'll be
equally dead (probably even so at much lower speed), but the car might be
salvagable.

Ouch! I have been on the Autobahn once; it was a bus for my high-school
tour. (Wheeeee) We got pulled over and told to exit because the driver
was going to slow. It was a Mercedes bus though... :) I did see a
Ferrari BB512 zip by at one point; that was cool.

I'm trying to figure out what kind of car it is (was) but can't.

In the second pic there seems to be some letters on the back-left but I
can't read them. My initial guess was a BMW 850 but I doubt it.

I think the photo has been debunked as another internet hoax. It originally
came out about a year ago, and shortly after it came out somebody somewhere
wrote a far too detailed analysis of it. The short version - it's an
Escort. Which almost certainly will not do 155 mph. Also that's not that
big a tree, how can there possibly be so much damage to the car and so
little damage to the tree? A very clever hoax.

I don't think slapping stickers all over your car increases the
performance by that much.
