SCGT qualifying

Having recently purchased SCGT, I have a question that has probably been
beaten to death on this NG, but I'm asking it anyway- until I bought it, I
didn't pay a lot of attention to the tech-type posts.
Is there a cure for the problem with the framerates in qualifying, or does
anyone know the reason for the big hit? In practice or during a race(even
with 16 cars), it runs smooth as silk. Qualifying, however, gets downright
undrivable at times. Detail levels and resolution don't seem to change
anything.
I have a K6/2-300, 64 MB SDRAM, and a CL Banshee AGP card. I've also tried
disabling force feedback(ACT Labs Force RS)to no effect.
 Any help for this?

Have you tried patching to version 1.551?

They said the problem was addressed.

Whatever they mean with "addressed", it does NOT mean "solved"

I've applied the latest patch, but didn't notice any difference. Just kind
of odd that it only affects qualifying, I think. Guess I'll just start at
the back of the grid....

Funny, i've never experienced this slowing down in Qualifing, could it be
that it's only a specific 3D card thats doing it?, mine is a Phoenix
Banshee.

I don't know, but I've played the original and patched version on both
a K6/2-300 with TNT and V2, and a P2-400 with a TNT and V2, and never
experienced the problem. Weird.
