P150 MMX CPU
32 MB RAM
8 MB ATI Rage 98 PCI Video
Generic 2W Opti 16-bit Sound Card (to 4W Speakers, & Line out to 30 Watt
Stereo)
That being my humble box, I've managed to get all these running with
acceptable eye candy but most importantly - smooth animation:
NFS II & III
Monster Truck Madness I & II (Yee-HAW!!)
NASCAR 1999
and (don't laugh) OF1R
I'll go on record as saying that IMHO, OF1R is enjoyable for what it is,
and considering my paltry system, it's more important to get 24 FPS and
crappy physics than to get 6 FPS and body roll from revving the engine.
:-)
Give it a whirl - you'll be able to get it for next to nothing if you
look in the clearance bins.

I'm back from my trip now. Seems I lost the post I'm supposed to reply
to though. Oh well..... :-)

Normally my comments are much too moderate to start a flamewar, but
when you meet the right person on the other side, that seems no
obstacle, hehe.
1) GP2 is graphically and physics-wise more complex than the two
examples you mention. And it has AI. <G>
Turn graphics down and it runs smooth.
Which is the same as "give graphics to a 3D card and it runs smooth".
Which is the same as "since GP3 will use 3D cards there is no reason,
at this point and without further knowledge, to expect a slow
performance _based on the GP2 example_."
See? With some common sense and a relative lack of preoccupation it is
not difficult at all.
It's people who get some sort of enjoyment out of slashing GP3 (or "X"
for that matter) who will tell you that GP3 HAS to be slow. It's as if
they WISH it to be slow. I mean, what is more fun than being negative
about sims that have not been released yet? (and that won't be like
GPL ;-) )
As I said, it is a possibility that GP3 will require a serious system.
But at this point there is ZERO information to support or deny it.
What you think just depends on your attitude and nothing else.
Do you think WSC will be slow, for example?
2) in your previous post you compared GP2 to *F1RS* which I'm sure
runs great on your PC in software mode. <G>
Your's,
