One thing we did a few times last year is to make a rule that there was to
be no passing before turn 1.  One shouldn't have to do that, but sometimes
it really helps.

One of the weaknesses of F1C's networking is that when there is packet loss
it attempts to predict the car position based on a smoothing algorithm.
This means neither your car nor the cars around you are necessarily where
you think they are.  I have seen people appear to run over the grass when,
based on their speed they clearly had to be on the pavement, I have run over
curbs without knowing I was close, and accidents seem to look different to
everyone involved.  The only way I know to deal with this is for everyone to
give each other lots of room.  That of course makes actual racing a lot
harder, because for example sometimes you need to be able to get up tight in
the braking zone to make a pass.  But getting that close is almost
guaranteed to cause a problem.  Everyone just needs to respect each other's
space.  Leave a buffer zone on all sides just in case the cars near you
aren't really where you think they are.  And unfortunately it also means you
have to be careful about getting close to curbs and walls, since even your
own car isn't necessarily where you think it is.

I think that would be a good rule. Watching the replay it seemed like one
certain driver had no idea how to pass going into the first turn or the last
turn...this might help them.

You faster guys don't have the experience of being lapped often.  Most of the
time, holding your line results in getting punted, followed occasionally by
"Get the *** outta the way!"
So, us slowpokes are in a no-win situation. :-(

Then those people don't know how to drive. I've been the slow car and the
fast car at track days (funnily, it was in the same car) and it was always
said. "If you're getting passed, stay on your line, let the faster car
decide what to do." That's the way it is everywhere. Trust me, I've been the
slower car (one of the reasons why I don't race GPL very often)

Its much easier for me if someone is staying on their normal line, I can
tell whether I'll be able to make the pass now or later. If they're weaving
back and forth (like what happened going into the turn) then I have no clue
what to do. I also tend to draft cars when I'm overtaking them. I know I had
a problem going down the front straight because I was drafting them, but
then they moved out of the way...but I still wanted to draft them :-P

I'll be changing back to the Jaguar for next race, so if you I happen to
pass you or something, just stay on your normal line and let me figure out
what to do.

I won't be around on the 4th.  I'll be in Reno, so someone else will have to
host that week if you guys want to race..
