Can't Run NR2003! - Strange CD Problem

by David Stampe » Wed, 20 Aug 2003 11:58:34

Just popped in my NR2003 CD to do a little racin' and it says it can't find
the CD.  After much investigation it seems that any CD I try to run shows up
as an audio CD. Whenever I go to Control Panel and try to explore any CD in
my drive all the files show up as audio files.  I've never seen anything
like this.  If anyone has any ideas on this I would sure appreciate the
help.

Thank You

What OS are you running?

I've seen this before and I think it was once a weird file association issue
like has been mentioned. The other time some of my CDROM's drivers had been
borked and were in need of a reinstall/update.

It could depend on several things like which OS it is you're using, what
type of drive it is (ATAPI, SCSI, etc) and maybe even have a tie-in to
DirectX issues.

Could try uninstalling the CD drive completely from Device Manager then
letting windows redetect it again.  Might clear the problem

Have you recently installed a new CDR drive?

Have you recently installed any CD cloning software like NERO, blindwrite,
daemon333, etc.?

It could be that some software you have recently installed has copied a .VXD
file into your windows install in error.  For example, WinME contains such
files in c:\windows\system\iosubsys.  If you have WinME you could look there
for a recent file that might be causing the problem.

Best wishes!

I agree. This is how I found some bad or corrupt drivers the one time that
was the problem. I removed the drive through the device manager and
rebooted. Got driver file errors on restart. Reinstalled the latest drivers
I had and all was well again. Sometimes the fix can be that easy. Other
times, well, things stay broke until a Windoze reinstall happens or a big
Windoze update comes out.
