Yes.. after more than a year of silence. Except one  'say, whatever
happened to that GPAL thingy?' post on RAS.

I have heard about a december 2001 release of WSC from a couple of
'insiders' now.
I write down all those names on a list.
I will pay each of them a visit when WSC is not released this month.

You have just been added to my list.

So you mean it could be, like, "Spirit of Speed 1937 through 1998"?
Doesn't seem very true-to-real-world (whatever the hell THAT is). Iffin'
you bought F12002 and there was a BRM P160 and a Simtek thrown in there,
wouldn't it make you wonder what they really had in mind?

Oops, sorry Frank... forgot to turn the subtlety switch off...

Well, my position on this is that they can give us whatever cars, whatever
era they want.  They can give us track configuration for any year.  I don't
see it as a lack of seriousness, au contraire they do it on purpose, yet
they still keep a level of specific recreation over
cars/tracks/billboards/etc...  It opens new horizons, you could race modern
cars over an older version of a track, or the opposite.

Since the first days of the project they told us it would be more then a
single series of a singular year.  It was evident when the temporary car
list they released were really of every era and every type of motorsports.

I just don't see why it has to be "true-to-real-world" like you state :)

I think by now though the utility is obsolete?

Hehe, I said 'hopefully'. I would be surprised too though. Someone
said they'd being working till 4am some day. That almost looks like an
attempt to make X-Mas. The D3D port is working, there are Max plugins
(but these may not be sold).
I don't know when the release will be, and I don't have any interest
in asking Chris about that, because he'll ofcourse not answer that,
but we do have occasional contact so that's why I know that he's still
working on it, and sometimes what he's working on. Biggest problem I
think at the moment will be getting licensing fixed.

If WSC doesn't come out by X-Mas, please note that Racer v0.4.9 will
be there before then. ;-)

Absolutely, now we have GEM+ and we can forget GPaL once and for all.
If nobody would ever mention GPaL here again that is.. :)

I thought 4am was a normal working time for us computer freaks?

Thanks for the info. One tip for C&T when you speak to them again:
FIRST arrange the licensing, THEN start to program. Not much use
spending years on building cars and tracks, and then not getting the
licensing arranged..

Whoopy :)

What? I'm sorry, thought you said something.

Not for me anymore; I'm getting too old. ;-)
Although yesterday was 2:30am, cleaning up some 3rd party's bug. That
was pretty bad too.

Doesn't seem to work like that. Licenses ofcourse take money, and you
can't really buy the license *now* for over 3 years (or at least that
seems very scary). Besides, that puts a deadline up. Notice a
Chris-West post from that Google search yesterday (or was it 2 days
ago?); he seems to have started at around april '99. Add 3 years...
oops! :)
Anyway, car companies can retreat while you think you have a verbal
deal for the future. So the Wests just have a couple of cars lying
around, but they won't be released unless licensed. Tracks are more
work, so more important anyway, I think. And ofcourse, programming.
For me, I'd also buy v0.8 if it was there, a bit incomplete.
