We all know about the Grand Prix Legends,  the SCGT, and Viper
racing, where we can hook up more then two drivers at a time on any
server.  My question is...

What other racing sims have the ability to hook up more then two
drivers at a time on any server?

Well of course, I know you race on the NROS Mike, but for those who don't
know...

The NROS is a Nascar sanctioned series, the 14th division of Nascar.  Why
two drivers when you can race with 24 ?  It's presently the best form of
virtual racing around the world, with almost no warping (compared to
everything else), statistics, dedicated server, etc.. :)

For more information, check out http://www.nros.com/   As for the other
titles well, there is SODA, all the Microsoft titles (and upcoming Microsoft
Midtown Madness), Rally Championship 99, Trans-Am Racing, Nascar Racing 3
and some "other title" by Papyrus, etc..  It's a standard now.  Racing game
without multiplayer features are doomed to fail immediately.

When speaking of multiplayer I think we need to clarify ourselves.  I
believe its internet based multiplayer of which we are referring to...not
LAN based.

A comment from ISI that was published on HighGear (www.simracingnews.com) is
"The part of the game, which really shines, is the Multiplayer LAN. Most
people don't have this opportunity, but for those who do it, it can't be
beaten. "We have invited fans to race with us, and they have absolutely
loved it. This may have been where some of the pre-hype hurt it."
As they did acknowledge, most people don't have the opportunity. So whats
the point of hyping the "multiplayer" system if most people don't have the
opportunity?  Yet, the internet is available to most people. Granted,
internet based *** has some limitations as far as bandwidht, latency,
routers going down, et al, but I think this is what ymenard was speaking of
when he he said that if a title doesn't have it, its doomed.  And I fully
agree.  Superbike World Championship is a really enjoyable sim..but is it
going to go anywhere? Probably not.  Could it have if it had good TCP/IP
based networking?  It would have had a better chance. :)

Ah well...I won't rant on this, perhaps in an editorial I will. :)  Btw,
Fran?ois....what is the "other title"? ;)

And if you happen to get together to build a proper LAN-net, chances
are most of your buddies don't want to play GPL but some idiotic Quake
game instead.

<snickers> Actually....we do have a LAN in my apartment, and a group of my
friends and I do do LANs at various places and yes, Quake2, Age of Empires,
etc get played.  But since I'm a gamer as much as a racer, I don't mind it.
Its actually a lot more fun with friends on a LAN than online.  However, yes
it generally seems that more people wish to play those games on a LAN as
opposed to harder gamulations like GPL. :)  Although I did get to play SBK
on a LAN...much fun, too bad it was on the action side of things and I
trounced my friends and the AI big time. :)

My point was that if people design games to be played solely on LAN
networks, they can keep them to theirselves. 99% of people can't
manage eight-machine LAN networks, so why bother.
